You have been badly injured in a car accident. It is necessary to give you a blood transfusion because you lost a great deal of blood in the accident. However, special care must be taken in selecting mew blood for you. If the blood is too different from your own, the transfusion could kill you.

There are four basic types of blood: A, B, AB and O. A simple test can show a person’s blood type. Everybody is born with one of these four types of blood. Blood type, like hair color and height, is received from parents.

. Because of substances contained in each type, the four groups must be transfused carefully. Basically, A and B cannot be mixed. A and B cannot receive AB, but AB may receive A or B. O can give to any other group; hence, it is often called the universal donor (供血者). For the opposite reason, AB is sometimes called the universal recipient (受血者). However, because so many reactions can happen in transfusions, patients usually receive only salt or plasma (血浆) until their blood can be matched as exactly as possible in the blood bank of a hospital. In this way, it is possible to keep away from any bad actions to the transfusion.

There is a relationship between your blood type and your nationality. Among Europeans and people of European ancestry, about 42 percent have type A while 45 percent have type O. The rarest is type AB. Other races have different percentages. For example, some American Indian groups have nearly 100 percent type O.

71. People with type A blood can receive ______________.

  A.AB     B.B C.O D. None of the above

72. If you need a transfusion, the best and safest blood for you is _________.

A. type AB B. type B

C. exactly the same type as yours D. a mixture of salt, plasma, and type O

第二节 阅读以下短文。根据各小题的具体要求,简要回答问题。(3个小题;每小题2分,满分6)

A quarrel at home may result in your falling ill or a dead faint. Don’t laugh, it’s true. Family matters including living habits and even the way you speak have a big effect on your health, doctors say.

Wang Xiaoyu, a Senior Two girl from Xichang, Sichuan Province, fainted in class when she heard her classmates quarrel at the top of their voices. Quarrels between parents also put the girl into a coma. “It is because she is suffering from depression(抑郁症), caused by bad relations at home,” doctors explained.

“We don’t get sick or stay well by ourselves,” said Dr Robert Ferrer from the US. His recent research shows that family forces may explain up to a quarter of health problems.

The genes(基因) you get from your family may cause illness. If one of your parents has a heart attack, your risk of being affected(影响) may double. But effects on health are not only written in our DNA.

Unrelated(无关的) people who live under the same roof also get similar problems. Diet, lifestyle and environment affect our health, too.

Ferrer’s research also finds that if teenagers feel they are ignored(忽视) or unimportant at home they are more likely to get sick.

“We may never fully understand all the effects that families have on our health. But just as individual(个别的) problems can have effects on others, a small improvement can have big benefits(好处),” Ferrer said.

73 Find in the passage a word closest in meaning to the underlined word “coma”.

74 Why did Wang Xiaoyu faint in class?(回答词数不超过10个)

75 What would be the best title for this passage?

“Cool” is a word with many meanings. Its traditional is used to show a temperature that is fairly cold. However, the word has expanded to take on many other different meanings now.

“Cool” can be used to express feeling of interest in almost anything, and it can often be heard in teenagers’ language. When you see a branded car in the street, maybe you can’t help saying, “How cool it is!” And if you see your favorite football players, you might think, “He’s cool!”

We all enlarge(扩大) the meaning of “cool”. You can use it instead of many words such as “new”, “wonderful”. “unbelievable” or “amazing”. An interesting story can be used to illustrate(说明) the usage of the word. A teacher asked her students to describe the waterfall they had visited. On one student’s paper there was nothing but one sentence, “It’s so cool that I love it very much.” Perhaps he thought the word “cool” was the best one to describe what he saw and felt. It can be understood as the water of the waterfall was cool, or the scenery of the waterfall was extraordinary beautiful, or when the student watched the water falling down from high with loud sound, he felt very happy.

But the story also proves the shortage of words and expressions. Without “cool” come people have no words to express the same meaning. So it is necessary to improve our vocabulary.

As a popular word, “cool” stands for a kind of special culture that people can accept easily. Except “cool”, can you think of any words that make your life colorful? I can. And I think they are also very cool.

Dear friend,

I’ve read your letter and now I’m writing to you to talk about how to improve your listening ability.

Learners of English, especially beginners, usually have trouble in understanding native speakers. How can we improve our listening ability? Here I’d like to tell you some ways which might help you improve your listening ability.

First of all, do things step by step. It is no good listening to anything beyond your level. Don’t choose too difficult listening materials.

Secondly, stick to one course of study. Work hard at it until you master it well.

Thirdly, listen to the English news program over the radio every day. If you have more time, listen to some interesting stories, too.

That is all I can give you now. I don’t know if it is helpful to you.

Best wishes to you.

                           Yours sincerely

                             Green
