Most English people have three names: a first name, a middle name and the family name. Their family name comes last. For example, my full name is Jim Allan Green. Green is my family name. My parents gave me both of my other names.
People don’t use their middle names very much. So “John Henry Brown” is usually called “John Brown”. People never use Mr, Mrs or Miss before their first names. So you can say John Brown, or Mr Brown; but you shouldn’t say Mr John. They use Mr, Mrs or Miss with the family name but never with the first name.
I think this is different from Chinese names. In China, the first name is the family name, and the last name is the given name. For example, a man called Zhou Jian puts his family name Zhou first.

A. a first name and the last name B. a first name and the family name

A. Mr Brown B. Mr Green C. Mr Zhou D. Mr John

It looks like a mobile phone(手机), but the service is much cheaper. It acts like a mobile phone, but only in your own city. Beyond the city walls, it’s useless.
“Little Smart”, also called “xiaolingtong”, has always been compared to mobile phones. But actually, it is more like one of those cordless phones(无绳电话) used around the home. The only difference is that this one reaches much further than from the bathroom to the living room. It can travel across an entire city.
Cheap costs are the main reason for the success of Little Smart. It costs 25 yuan a month for the line and about 0.1 yuan per minute to use. A mobile phone, on the other hand, can cost four or five times as much. What’s more, unlike mobile phones, there’s no fee(费) for incoming calls. So these low charges have attracted many users.
But, Little Smart is not really that smart. Users often complain about its bad voice quality. And there are not as many stations to pick up its signals(信号)as there are for mobiles. “I couldn’t receive a phone call if I was on a bus,” said Li Ping, a user in Hangzhou. “It worked fine when I stood still, but there were breaks in signal when I was moving.”
Scientists are trying to make Little Smart more user friendly. Messaging and Internet access(接入) have been added to the service. And the latest Little Smart handset even has color screen.

A. About 10 fen per minute to use.
B. It costs four or five times more than a mobile phone.
C. It only costs 25 yuan each month.
D. There’s no fee for calls.
69. The underlined word “handset” in the last paragraph means “_________”.
A. the hand bag B. telephone C. service D. mobile phone
70. What can we infer from the passage? ________________.
A. It’s wrong to say that Little Smart is smart.
B. Scientist are trying to make Little Smart smaller.
C. Little Smart will be better than today.
D. People will change Little Smart into a mobile phone.

第四部分 任务型阅读(共10小题, 共10分)
阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在文后71—80的空格里填上适当的单词或短语。
注意:每空不超过3个单词.
Today anyone will accept money in exchange for goods and services. People use money to buy food, furniture, books, bicycles and hundreds of others they need or want. When they work, they usually get paid in money.
Most of the money today is made of metal or paper. But people used to use all kinds of things as money. One of the first kinds of money was shell. Shells were not the only things used as money. In China, cloth and knives were used. In parts of Africa, cattle were one of the earliest kinds of money. Other animals were used as money, too.
The first metal coins were made in China. They were round and had a square hole in the center. People strung them together and carried them from place to place.
Different countries have used different metals and designs for their money. The first coins in England were made of tin. Sweden and Russia used copper to make their money. Later, other countries began to make coins of gold and silver.
But even gold and silver were inconvenient if you had to buy something expensive. Again the Chinese thought of a way to improve money. They began to use paper money. The first paper money looked more like a note.
Money has had all interesting history from the days of shell money until today.

第五部分 书面表达 (满分25分)
Dear Jin Jing,
Your problem is a common one among middle school students. Maybe the following advice can help you.
First of all, believe in yourself. Your greatest problem is that you lack self-confidence. The first thing you must do is to smile at your classmates. One smile speaks louder about your wish to make friends than any words. Your smile will show that you are friendly to them. Next, try talking with a student who is as shy as yourself or who shares the same interest as you. You can discuss your studies with a classmate, and you can also talk about your hobbies as well. If anyone is in trouble in life or study, you should be ready to help him or her. Once you have confidence, you can make as many friends as possible.
Yours,
Xxx

W:The movie is over. You slept through the best part.
M:Ah, ah, I must have dozed off during the last few minutes.
W:Right. You were gone for so long. You should have brought your pillow and blanket. So, what did you think about it?

W:Ah, I thought it was fantastic. I mean, you have to admit that the special effects were great, and the acting wasn’t bad either.
M:Oh,come on.What about the ship’s communications officer? I mean, what did you think about him? He has pointy ears and a funny hairstyle.
W: He is not human. He is from Planet Volcan and he is very smart. The ship’s doctor was amazing. It was so cool when he brought the captain back to life during one of the battles.
M: The battle scene was pretty realistic and the background music fitted very well. But the photography was so fake!
W:How do you know? You were snoring so loud that the neighbors probably had to close their windows. It was that bad.
M:Ah, well, let’s go to bed.

Hello,I was once an airline hostess. Now I’m on my first bus trip and I’m quite amazed at the services offered during the trip. Included are meals off the way, rest rooms, public-address announcements and a uniformed hostess. Just now I introduced myself to the hostess on the bus, and we compared experiences on the air and ground travel.
At lunch time, she gave out menus offering a choice of sandwiches. As she began filling orders, she found that there weren’t enough egg-salad sandwiches. She quickly went to whisper to the driver. The bus soon stopped. The hostess dashed to another similar bus that was all the time following ours, and soon she returned with a box of egg-salad sandwiches. As she passed my seat, she asked,“Could you do that on a plane?”
