For
many years, artists have flocked to Paris, France, to
paint or to learn to paint. Perhaps artists first went
there because of the city's beauty. They went to paint
pictures of the broad tree-lined streets, the great churches, and the graceful
river bridges. The artists felt comfortable in Paris because the people of the
city had always enjoyed art. Paris had great art
museums, filled with famous paintings and statues from many countries. And the
people of Paris had always welcomed new ideas. In this
city, artists felt free to experiment with new ways of painting. As soon as
famous artists painted in Paris, students came to learn
them. People came to buy
paintings. Men called art dealers set up galleries where
paintings could be bought and sold. Others kept shops
that sold artists' paints and supplies. Students and the artists who were not
yet famous could live in Paris for very little
money. They learned by studying great art in the
museums, and they learned from one another. They held
art fairs, hanging their paintings outdoors along the streets. Today, New York
City and Florence, Italy, are also famous art
centers. But the world's principal art exhibits are

In Kansas City, Missouri, a computer helps fire-fighters. The computer keeps information about every one of the 350,000 street addresses in the city. When fire-fighters answer a call, the computer will give them important information about the burning building; its position, size and so on. In fact, the computer system has a lot of ways of helping fire-fighters with the problems facing them, For instance, it can give medical information about invalids living in a burning building. With this information, the fire-fighters can take special care to find these sick persons and save them.

I am sure that no one can describe the feelings one has when they go home for the first time. I know I couldn’t. after living in school for three weeks and experiencing homesickness. I was actually looking forward to having some quiet time at home. On Friday, September 13, I left school for home at about 2:00 pm. On my way home, I kept thinking what it would be like to go home for the first time. As my mother drove through town, I could tell nothing had changed, but it was still very strange. Suddenly I learned that I was starting to regard Cedar Crest as my home.
I had a great weekend. I attended Jewish services most of the weekend and did a few other things that I had missed for three weeks. I spent a lot of time playing with my pet rabbit because I missed her a lot. I felt strange when I slept in my own bed again. When Sunday came around I actually wanted to go back to Cedar Crest. I missed my roommates there. And, I had to finish my homework. My father brought me back. When we arrived, I hugged and kissed him goodbye and carried all my stuff to the room myself. What I wanted most at that moment was to be back in Cedar Crest and see all my friend again.
I have been home once more since then. It still felt very strange. When it was time to go back to school for the second time, my father said, “What do you want to do now?”, my answer is that “I want to go home now.” It meant I wanted to go back to school. I guess you could say, “There is no place like home!”
