My dream school is like my home. The teachers are like kind and loving parents. Everyone knows everybody else, including the parents.

In my dream school, each student is treated fairly(公平地). Every student receives personal attention from teachers because they love children and work with them.

In this school, lessons are not strictly(严格地)divided(划分)by subjects. Most of the time, lessons in Math, English, Geography or Science can be taught as one. Students learn concepts(概念)by doing, seeing, smelling, hearing, touching, and tasting as well as thinking. When students find learning meaningful and interesting, they will naturally want to learn more and they do not need to be pushed(强迫)by adults to learn.

In my dream school, learning is not only from textbooks. Students get to travel with their teachers and parents to different places in the country to learn about people, culture, history and geography, as well as their languages and scientific knowledge. For example, if they have read about the fishing trade in the textbooks, they can go to the fishing villages and see for themselves, and perhaps try their hands in fishing to experience how the fishermen live and work. These kinds of experiences will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

I may have passed my age to learn in such a school, but at least, I hope that my children and others like them, will be able to experience this dream in reality(现实). Reality only happens when there is a dream. Do you like my dream?

                               C

Everyone has his or her own idol(偶像). My idol is a Hollywood movie star — Sandra Bullock. I’ve liked her for two and a half years. I think she has an unbelievably magical power. She’s the best actress in my heart. Actually I am deeply influenced(影响)by her. About two years ago, I borrowed a video called “Speed,” in which Sandra played a role. At that time, I still didn’t know who she was. But after seeing that great movie, I was totally struck! Her performance and smile really attracted me. At that time, I started collecting everything about Sandra from magazines, TV and newspapers. But unfortunately, I couldn’t find much information in my hometown. That really disappointed me. All I could do was to get on the internet. Luckily, there were many foreign web sites. I was really happy then. But there was a big problem for me: the Web sites are all in English. So, English became an important part in my life. I decided to learn English well and to be able to read and understand everything. The craziest thing I’ve ever done was to record all her movies, film previews(预告)and interviews. I listened to them over and over every day. When I heard any word that I didn’t understand, I would look them up in the dictionary. That was a good for me because I could learn them in a very short time. It does work, and I never get tired of(厌烦)doing this. It’s been two years since then, and my listening and reading abilities are better than before. I can even chat with my foreign friends on the internet. I should say from the bottom of my heart, “Thank you so much, Sandra.”

If you have an idol like me, I hope you all can get something helpful from that person.

If You Make a Mistake, Don’t Worry!
Yeah, you’ll want to forget about them, but mistakes can be useful. Making a mistake doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. In real life you have to grow and mature(成熟), and with that comes some growing pains.

You know you should have studied hard but you went out with some friends instead. You know you should have put the money into the bank for a rainy day instead of spending it on all kinds of things you didn’t need.

It’s the growing pains called mistakes that most people make when they are growing up. Face them. You are going to make them. Learn from them. All of the people you wish to copy, such as all the experts in your business field, have made mistakes. They’ll continue to make mistakes for all their successes.

One of the major differences between people like them and the vast majority(大多数)of others is that they don’t let their mistakes stop them. Instead, they use their mistakes as learning tools.

At the very least, when you make a mistake, you’ll know what not to do. And you can help others by warning them of the mistakes you’ve made. Don’t let mistakes stop you from doing anything. Learn from them, don’t hide in a closet(壁橱). Facing up to your mistakes now and later will mature.

What mistakes are you making right now? Take a look at anything you might be doing wrong. Take a step back and evaluate(评价)your situation, then fix whatever needs to be corrected. Then move forward.

Always remember your mistakes to remind yourself of what not to do for the future.

68. Why does the writer say mistakes can be useful?

B. Because experts also make mistakes.

C. Because you can mature by facing and learning from mistakes.

D. Because next time you know that money shouldn’t be wasted.

A. Before you make any mistake, you had better lock the closet in your room.

B. Keep your mistakes in mind in order not to make the same mistakes again in the future.

C. Don’t go out with some of your friends any more.

D. Forget your mistakes and move forward.

70. When we make any mistake next time, we should do the followings except ___.

A. Think about the reason why we make the mistake.

B. Try to correct the mistake.

C. Tell others not to make the same mistake as you do.

D. Be careful not to do anything.

71. From the text, we can infer that _____.

A. facing mistakes, some people lose heart B. mistakes can be useful

C. mistakes can be called growing pains D. Put away money when it is rainy

Before I stood on the ground of the largest island in the world I knew only a little about Australia. I came here in 2000, I had just heard of Sydney and Melbourne, and I knew koalas and kangaroos were Australian animals. To be frank (坦白的), I was confused(困惑的)and did not know the name of or where the national capital was for a long time.

When I was sitting on the plane traveling from Beijing to Melbourne, many questions were rolling around in my mind ceaselessly(不停地). Will I, a foreigner, be welcomed by Australians, or not? How long will it take me to get used to this wholly new life in this strange land?

I stepped out the customs section at Melbourne airport, aimlessly like a day- dreamer. I really lacked(缺乏) any confidence. However, my start did not seem so bad. I made my way to find a taxi from the Information Desk. I found my friend, who lives in Melbourne, very easily. I felt that living in Australia was not so difficult, with the help of a taxi driver, as I had imagined. At the end of my first day here in Australia though, I had only spoken to a customs officer, a receptionist and a taxi driver.

With the time passing day after day, I began to understand this country. The most impressive thing for me is the fresh air, the green grass, and the clear and clean water. Several months later, I realized Australia is a good place for entertainment(娱乐). There are many sports played here, games, art exhibitions, music, and various cultural festivals fill up everyday Australian life. One of these events(事件) attracted me so much that I went to see the international air show held in Laverton Melbourne, and my interest in aircraft(航行器) was ignited.

Australians are outgoing and friendly. Whenever I meet an Australian face to face, going along the same way as me, most people here will say hello to me. After the first few times this happened, I was affected by this custom, and started to say to people in advance(预先), when I met them. In fact, Australia has many charming points to me. The exotic(异国情调的) animals, the tasty wine, the wonderful coastline, even the Australian English accent! Every experience I undertake(承担) is a great discovery to me.

All in all, Australia in my eyes is an ideal country for living. Peace, tranquility and friendship are forever the repeating themes of this country. I love Australia.

72. Why did the writer say, “I was confused and did not know the name of or where the national capital was for a long time.”

A. Because the name of Australian capital city is too difficult to remember.

B. Because the writer didn’t know where the capital city is.

C. Because the writer was too nervous when he got to Australia first.

D. Because it was an example to show that he knew little about Australia.

73. From the third paragraph, we can infer _____.

A. the writer often dreams a dream in the daytime

B. no one met him at the airport

C. taxi drivers were more helpful than the writer had expected

D. the writer couldn’t speak English

74. What does the underlined word “ignited” mean?

A. aroused (唤起) B. lost C. meaningless D. worthless

75. Which statement is NOT True according to the passage?

A. The Australian English accent is a little different from the one that the writer has learned.

B. Australian people are very friendly and helpful.

C. All the people going along the same way as the writer will say hello to him.

D. Australia has wonderful environment.

Dear Tom,

These days I feel upset, because I don’t know how I can get along well with my parents.

At school I am good at maths and Chinese, while I find English and physics difficult to learn. But my parents think I should always do best in every subject.

Besides, they don’t respect me at all. They often read my diary, and whenever I come back late, they get very angry.

You know I like popular music very much, and when weekends come, I am dying to watch TV for a while. However, I am forbidden to do anything except studying.

Yours,

Wang Ning
