第二部分 阅读理解 (共25小题,每题2分,满分50分)
阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项.
(A)
Try to Use English
As a senior student, you may have realized the importance of English. But how can you study English well?
I think it necessary that you should try your best to use English. We study English, not study about English. That a person knows a set of grammatical(语法的) rules and a lot of English words does not mean that he has mastered(精通) English. A student’s mastery of English is ultimately(最终的) measured by how well he can use it, not by how much he knows about it. I believe that learning English is just like learning to play the piano. A student of the piano lessons has only one purpose(目的): after practicing, he is able to play the piano. So you should also have such a purpose: you are to use English.
Using English consists(包含) of speaking English and writing compositions in English. In order to improve your spoken English, you’d better take an active part in teacher’s lectures, answer his questions in English, and try to speak much English as you can after class. Writing English journals(日记) is the best way to improve your writing. At the same time, you should listen to and read more English.
46. “We study English, not study about English.” This sentence implies(暗示) ______.
A. that we study the English language in order to use English, not only to grasp(掌握) some grammatical rules
B. that we needn’t study English grammatical rules

D. that we study the English language in order to grasp some grammatical rules
47. Which is the true statement according to the passage?
A. Mr. Wang has a good mastery of the English language, so we come to the conclusion that he knows a set of grammatical rules and a lot of English words
B. Mr. Zhang knows a set of grammatical rules and a lot of English words, so he has mastered English.
C. Xiao Wang knows a lot of English words and a set of grammatical rules, so that he speaks English well.
D. Xiao Zhang knows much about English, so he can use English
48. From the author’s point of view, ______.
A. learning English is very important because of the grammatical rules
B. English is of importance to us Chinese
C. learning English is not like learning to play the piano
D. a student’s mastery of English is not measured by how much he knows about it
49. According to the passage, we ______.
A. want to be able to get good results in English examinations
B. should try our best to use English
C. should have the same purpose as a student of the piano lessons
D. should study English well because of its importance
50. ______ is the best way to improve your spoken English.
A. Knowing a lot of English words
B. Answering the teacher’s questions in English
C. Trying to speak as much English as you can after class
D. B and C
(B)
One of the interesting things about Cuba is its educational systems. As in many other countries, schools are free. What is unusual is that schools combine study with manual work. Each school has a plot of land where the children work for each day. They plant vegetables, which they need weed and water, and later they harvest the crops. In this way, they develop good working habits and learn how important it is to produce. Usually, children do not like vegetables such as spinach(菠菜), green beans, or cabbage. But by growing vegetables themselves, Cuban children soon develop a taste for them. During the summer, older children also go to the country to help the farmers with the crops.
In this system, the children spend part of their school time studying and the rest working in the open air helping increase the nation’s production.

For some time businessmen in the United States have used Ms before a woman’s name when they do not know whether the woman is married or not. Today, however, many women prefer to use Ms rather than Mrs or Miss. The word Mr does not tell us whether or not a man is married. Many women think this is an advantage(优势) for men. They want to be equal(平等) to men in this way. These women feel that it is not important for people to know whether they are married or not.
There are some problems with Ms, however. Not all women like it. Some like the older ways of doing things. Some find it difficult to pronounce. (Ms sounds like “Miz”.) Generally, young women like it better than older women do. It is difficult to know whether or not Ms will be used by more American women in the future.

Before 1900, many theories existed as to the cause of yellow fever(黄热病). Some doctors were sure the disease was air-borne, others felt that it was spread from person to person.
Dr. Carlos Finlay, a well-known Cuban doctor of that time, had long held the theory that it was caused by the bite of a mosquito (蚊子). But neither the public nor the doctors then accepted his idea.
Despite this, Walter Reed, an American doctor sent to study yellow fever in Cuba, went to talk with Finlay. Reed, after reading a lot on the subject, had begun to think that Dr. Finlay might be right. Then Reed and his comrades set to work at once. Outside Havana, they set up a laboratory and began experiments to test the theory. The experiments were successful. Hiking
Hiking is a great way to travel. You will get close to nature and take exercises at the same time. Hiking is easy to do and doesn’t have to be very expensive. You can hike close to home or travel to other places. The basic equipment you need for hiking is simple: good shoes, clothes and a backpack. You can hike in the mountains, in a forest or along a river. You can also go for a hike in the city. Hiking is fun and exciting, but you shouldn’t forget safety. Here are some basic tips for successful hiking.
Don’t hike alone. Tell someone where you are going. Bring water and a good map. Watch out for dangers such as spiders, snakes or poisonous plants. Wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Bring a cell phone if you have one.
Rafting
Another exciting adventure is rafting. A raft is a small boat that you can use to paddle down rivers and streams. Rafting is a good way to experience nature. If you want a normal rafting trip, choose a quiet stream or river that is wide and has few fallen trees or rocks. If you are looking for more excitement, you may want to try whitewater rafting. Whitewater rafting is more adventurous and difficult than normal rafting. It is done on rivers and streams where water moves quickly. You have to be careful not to hit rocks, trees and other dangers.
As with rafting, you should always think about your safety and wear good clothes. You also need to learn the basic skills of rafting, such as how to handle the raft, how to paddle and how to get in and out of the raft. You should not go rafting unless you know how to swim, and you should always wear a life jacket.
