Success in life depends to a great extent on what we mean by success.
To some people money is the only real indication (象征) of achievement in the modern world. Their evaluation of success is based on the state of their bank balance and the power that goes with it. Their life is devoted to making money and they are at a loss to understand people whose ideas are different from their own.
There are people, however, who consider their lives successful if they are doing what they enjoy doing though it may not bring them ,any great financial (财政)reward. A man who spends his time gardening might consider himself successful if the flowers blossomed and his trees gave fruit. Nursing, teaching, running a Youth Club all bring their own kind of success to those interested in them.
Success can be found in painting a picture nobody will ever see, sailing a boat, watching the stars, collecting stamps---almost anything that involve personal efforts. The great thing is to believe that success is not necessarily public.

For nearly a century before "there was such a thing as a space program-a view of space was possible. People could see full views of the moon, explore the Mars, and study the beauty of outer space. All of these were made possible by a small group of artist-astronomers (艺术家) who worked to show people what space might look like.
Lucien Rudaux, a French artist, was the first to use his artistic ability and his knowledge of astronomy in art. His paintings show a mixture of observations, imagination and attention. As a result, many of his works have become surprisingly close to actual conditions on distant planets. His paintings of the Mars included moonlike craters (:k I1J D) that were first photographed by the astronauts in 1965. Some Americans start their workday 15 minutes after they wake up. Some even stay in their nightclothes. These people are among a growing number of people who work at home at least one day a month. Some even do this every day. This way of working is called telecommuting.
The idea of telecommuting by computer goes back to more than 30 years ago. For a while, it did not gain as much popularity as its supporters had expected.
Then came the 1990s and the rise of personal computers and the internet. Today, telecommuting is gaining much wider acceptance. In 1997 , about 12 million people in the United States worked at home at least one day a month.
But the idea of telecommuting does not interest everyone. Some people do not want t6 mix home and office life. Some fear that if they telecommute, they will not make progress in their organizations. They fear they may become less important to their employers. Employers may or may not provide equipment for working at home.
Some telecommuters say having permission to work at home makes them better workers. They might feel the need to work harder and communicate more with their supervisors. Experts say telecommuting can help organizations keep good workers who live far from the office, or want to move out of the area. It can also help when' the office itself moves.

A recent research on education from grandparents shows that in Chi1a about half of the children are taught by their grandparents. In large cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, the proportion (比例) is even higher.
Yin Qiuming, a famous sociologist from Shenzhen University, said that children's receiving education from grandparents has now become a social phenomenon.
Such education has played an important role in children's education. The research which centered on education by grandparents shows that children that receive education from their grandparents behave not as well as children who are educated by their parents in developing sanitary (卫生的) habits, study habits, and children's total performance.
Yin pointed out that if children only received education from their grandparents, they might not develop well mentally (精神上) .
For small kids, who are not yet fully grown both mentally and physically, if they have to live together with old people, they will come across some problems in their life. For children who do not live with their parents since very young, they might feel lonely, look timid, or be too dependent.
Yin suggested that parents should stay with their children as long as they can, and communicate with their children for at least two hours every day.
However, some experts said that it might not be a bad thing for grandparents to educate their grandchildren, for old people have a lot of experience in bringing up children, and they are often more patient with the kids. If used properly, old people's experience can be helpful.

Maybe you love dogs and want to pet everyone you see. Or maybe you're afraid of them and want to move to a dog-free neighborhood. Either way, dogs are a part of life. Millions of people have dogs as pets. You' II see them all over the town, in the city, in the country, and even when you're on vacation. They come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities.
Like many kinds of pets---no matter how small or cute they are--dogs, under certain conditions, could hurt you. You can respect a dog by giving it space and following certain rules. These rules not only keep the dog happier but also protect you from getting bitten.
Use your "dog manners"

S: Slow down. Go slow around dogs if they run after you.
A: Always get help. Turn to a grown-up whenever necessary.
