Although English is not as old as Chinese, it is spoken by many people around the world every day. English speakers are always creating new words, and we should be able to know where most words come from.

Sometimes, however, no one may know really where a word comes from. Did you ever think about why hamburgers are called hamburgers, especially when they are not made with ham( 火腿 )? About a hundred years ago, some men went to America from Europe. They came from a big city in Germany called Hamburger. They didn’t speak good English, but they ate good food. When some Americans saw them eating round pieces of beef, they asked the Germans what it was. The Germans did not understand the question and answered. “We came from Hamburger.” One of these Americans owned a restaurant, and had an idea. He cooked some round pieces of beef like what the men from Hamburger ate. Then he put them between two pieces of bread and started selling them. Today “ hamburgers” are sold in many countries around the world.

Allen goes everywhere with Brigitta Anderson, a 54 year-old secretary. He moves around her office at work and goes shopping with her. “Most people don’t seem to mind Allen,” says Brigitta, who thinks he is wonderful. “He is my fourth child,” she says. She may think of him and treat him that way, buying his food, paying his health bills and his taxes, but in fact Allen is a dog.

Brigitta and Allen live in Sweden, a country where everyone is expected to lead an orderly life according to rules laid down by the government, which also provides a high level of care for its people. This level of care costs money.

People in Sweden pay taxes on everything, so they aren’t surprised to find that owning a dog means yet more taxes. Some people are paying as much as 500 Sweden kronor in taxes a year for the right to keep their dogs, and the money is spent by the government on dog hospitals and sometimes medical treatment for a dog that falls ill. However, most such treatment is expensive, so owners often decide to pay health and even life insurance for their dog.

In Sweden dog owners must pay for any damage their dog does. A Swedish kennel club official explains what this means: if your dog runs out on the road and gets hit by a passing car, you, as the owner, have to pay for any damage done to the car, even if your dog has been killed in the accident.

Two pieces of foreign news caught people’s attention. In the US,18-year-old Michael Sessions won the mayoral(市长的)election in his town, to become the youngest mayor in the US. A similar thing happened in Britain. Martin Halstead, a high school graduate at 19, set up his own airline company.

Chinese teens admire their skills in getting such important posts. But have you ever thought that you could have the same success?

Burdened with heavy school work, many high school students in China are told to lock themselves in their studies and forget about other things.

But actually this is not wise.

Everyone is different and there is no need to follow the life paths of our ancestors(祖先). Sessions had dreamt of being a politician since he was a child.Halstead is crazy about airplanes and took every chance to learn about them.

So why not think outside the box, as these boys did? Consider your interests when planning your own path through life. Doing this can be more exciting and makes it easier to succeed. Interest is our best teacher.

But dreaming is not enough. A good education is a stepping-stone to a successful career. It helps broaden your horizons(视野)so you understand more about yourself and therefore perform better. That’s the reason Sessions chose___________while taking charge of his town.

Success still takes work. Without hard work, a dream is just like a cloud in the air that you never can reach. 51.What is the best title of the passage? (Within 10 words)
