W: Oh, I didn’t think of it that way…Well, I guess you’re right. And I could always come back here for a visit.

M: I’ve always wanted to go to Hangzhou. Now that you’ll be there, maybe my parents will let me go there to visit you.

W: Good morning, Mr. Smith. I’ve just come to tell you about the visit to a village scheduled for tomorrow.

We have a choice of two villages. One is in the suburbs of Beijing, about 40 kilometers away. The other is in a rather out-of-the-way mountain area about 100 kilometers away.

M: What’s the one in the mountains like?

W: It’s a small village that has recently made remarkable economic progress. It used to be very backward, but now the place has completely changed. Could you let me know which you’d prefer sometime this morning so that we can make the necessary arrangements?

M: Well, I think I’d rather visit the village in the mountains.

W: All right. In that case, I’m afraid we’ll have to get up rather early tomorrow because it’s quite far. We’ll have lunch at the village and get back before supper. Suppose we get up at six. What do you say?

M: That’s fine.

第九段独白,回答第15--17题

Good morning, Alice. Yes, this is Ernie. Look, I’d like to discuss something with you. I’m thinking of opening a small candy store downtown. There are four places I might rent. The first place is on Mac Street next to the theatre. It’s $400 a month. The second place is on Aderson Road at the corner of Spring street. The third place is on Main Street across the camera shop and behind the high school. The second place is the cheapest, $350 a month. The third place is the most expensive at $500 a month. The fourth place on Benefit Street is across the street from the high school and costs $450 a month. I’m just not sure which place to choose. Of course, Main Street is centrally located, but the place on Mac Street is $100 cheaper. And the theatre probably has a candy shop, so the second place would be a better location. It’s across from the park where children play, and children like candy. Well, if you think of anything, let me know. Bye.

第十段独白,回答第18--20题

The word “sport” first meant something that people did in their free time. Later it often meant hunting wild animals and birds. About a hundred years ago the world was first used for organized games. This is the usual meaning of the word today.

People spend a lot of their spare time playing football, basketball, tennis and many other sports. Such people play because they want to. A few people are paid for sports they play. These people are called professional sportsmen. They may be sportsmen for only a few years, but during that time the best ones can earn a lot of money.
