第三部分;阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

                A

Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Careless methods of production and lack of consumer demand for environment friendly products have contributed to the pollution problem. One result is that millions of tons of glass, paper, plastic, and metal containers are produced, and these are difficult to get rid of.

However, today, more and more consumers are choosing “green” and demanding that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these: “Will this shampoo damage the environment?” “Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?”

A recent study showed that two out of five adults now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. This means that companies must now change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that they are “green”, that is, friendly to the environment.

Only a few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry labels(标签)to show that the product is green. Some companies have made the manufacturing(生产)of clean and safe products their main selling point and emphasize it in their advertising.

The concern for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business. No longer will the public accept the old attitude of “Buy it, use it, throw it, and forget it.” The public pressures is on, and gradually business is cleaning up its cat.

56.It becomes clear from the text that the driving force(动力)behind green products is _______.

A.public caring for environment     B.companies’ desire for bigger sales

C.new ways of doing business      D.rapid growth of supermarkets

A.a selling point B.the company name

C.a great demand for health    D.the manufacturing of green products.

Two American scientists told the people in industrial nations that they would be much healthier if they ate more of the same kind of foods eaten by humans living more than 10,000 years ago.

The scientists say that the human body has changed very little since human first appeared on earth, but the way we live has changed greatly. Our body has not been able to deal with these changes in life style and this has led to new kinds of sicknesses. These new sicknesses were not known in ancient times. So they are called “diseases of civilization(文明)”. Many cancers and diseases of the blood system, including heart attacks and strokes(中风)are examples of such diseases.

Scientists noted that early stone-age people used very little alcohol (酒精) or tabacco, probably none. Ancient people also got a great deal of physical exercise, but a change in food is one of the main differences between life in ancient times and life today.

Stone-age people hunted wild animals for their meat, which had much less fat than farm animals. They also ate a lot of fresh wild vegetables, and fruits. They did not use milk and other dairy products(乳制品), and they made very little use of grains. But today, we eat a large amount of dairy products and grain foods. We eat six times more salt than stone-age people. We eat more sugar. We eat twice as much fat but only one third as much protein and much less vitamin C.

People today probably do not want to live as people thousands of years ago did, but scientists say that we would be much healthier if we ate as those ancient people did, cutting the amount of fatty, salty and sweet foods.

Animals are natural resources(资源)that people have wasted all through our history.

Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers(羽毛), for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever. Why should people care? Because we need animals. And because once they are gone, there will never be any more.

Animals are more than just beautiful or interesting. They are more than just a source of food. Every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems.

For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks(鹰), the farmers’ stores of corn and grain were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice. With no hawks to keep down their numbers, the rats and mice multiplied(繁殖)quickly.

Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger.

C.    The number of some animals in danger will increase.

D. Animals in danger will be kept away from people.

The weather is not beautiful all of the time. Perhaps you can remember a day when bad weather made you afraid. One kind of bad weather that frightens many people is called a thunderstorm(雷暴雨).

This is what happens when there is a thunderstorm. First you see a sudden flash(闪亮)of bright light. A few seconds later you hear a loud rumbling  sound. This quick flash is called lighting, and the loud sound is called thunder. Lighting is colourful, but it can cause serious problems.

Lighting is electricity that is moving very rapidly. It may be moving between a cloud and the ground, between two clouds, or between two parts of the same cloud. The lighting heats the air around it. This hot air expands(扩大), or gets bigger, and it causes the air to move in waves which pass you in a series(系列), one after another. For this reason, you may hear many rumbles and not just one sound.

68.A good title for this passage is _______.

  A.Air waves B.Lighting and People

Life is difficult.

This is a great truth. It is a great truth because once we truly understand and accept it, then life is no longer difficult.

Most people do not fully see this truth; instead they complain about enormity(巨大)of their problems and difficulties as if life should be easy. It seems to them that their difficulties represent a unique(独特的)kind of suffering forced upon them or else upon their families, their class, or even their nation.

Life is a series of problems. Do you want to complain about them or solve them?

What makes life difficult is that the process of facing and solving problems is a painful one. Problems, depending on their nature, cause us sadness or loneliness or regret or anger or fear. These are uncomfortable feelings, often as painful as any kind of physical pain. Indeed, it is because of the pain the events or conflicts cause us that we call them problems. And since life poses(提出)an endless series of problems, life is always difficult and is full of pain as well as joy.

Yet, it is in this whole process of solving problems that life has its meaning. Problems are the severe test that distinguishes between success and failure. It is only because of problems that we grow mentally and spiritually. When we desire to encourage the growth of the human spirit, we challenge and encourage the human capacity to solve problems, just as in school we set problems for our children to solve. It is through the pain of facing and working out problems that we learn. As Benjamin Franklin said, “ Those things that hurt, instruct.” It is for this reason that wise people learn not to dread (be afraid) but actually to welcome the pain of problems.

73.Which sentence best expresses the main point of the passage?

A. Everybody has problems.

B. We become stronger by facing and solving the problems of life .

C. Life is difficult because our problems are causing us pain.

D. People like to complain about their problems

74.According to the article, we give school children difficult problems to solve in order to _____.

A. challenge them to learn

B. teach them to fear the pain of solving problems

C. make them clever.

D. Teach them to have respected authority.

75.The best title for the passage is ______.

A.Life is Difficult B.Life is Easy

  C.Life D.Life is beautiful

书面表达:

In order to support Beijing to hold Olympic Games in 2008 and protect our environment, an activity was organized by the Youth League and Students’ Union of our school during the week from June 1st to June 8th.

All the students in the senior grades took active part in it. The students in Senior One cleaned the playground, watered the young trees and flowers, and removed weeds. The students in Senior Two collected lots of waste paper, old books, empty cans and old toys. They had them sorted and sent to the recycling center. Though the students in Senior Three were very busy preparing for the exams, they didn’t miss the chance. In the garden near our school, they cleared up the plastic bags—the white pollution, and helped the dustmen fix the rubbish bins. They kept telling people not to destroy the beauty of the nature.

The activity is really instructive, in which we have realized the importance of protecting the environment, as well as developed our ability in practice.

M:I don’t think that is a problem. I can use my bike.

W:Oh, sure. That’s a good idea.

M:it’s so hard for me to learn English. Why is it so easy for you?

W:I didn’t know you were having problems. Maybe it’s easier for me because I already speak two languages. But also, I really work at it.

M:Well,I always do my homework and go to classes. What else do you think would help?

W:Well, you might try reading newspapers. And I always talk to Americans when I get a chance, though sometimes it’s hard.

M:But, how do you meet Americans? I only know other foreign students.

W:How about sitting next to an American at lunch, or have you ever thought of asking someone over to your house for dinner?

M:Those are good ideas, but I’m a little shy to speak English.

W:You won’t learn if you don’t try and speak. If I were you, I’d talk to your English teacher. He might have some good ideas.

W: Peter, can you turn the radio up a little? There should be the weather report after the news.

M: All I hear is advertising. Oh, here it comes.

W:Peter, what did it say? I couldn’t hear with the water running in the bathroom.

M: It said we are going to have more snow and it will turn colder.

W: But it is already terribly cold today.

M:I’m glad I’ll be able to go skating this weekend.

W:Not if it’s too windy.

M:You’ll just have to learn to like it, Susan. The weather here will be like this for another two months.

W: Yes, I know, but I wish the winter were shorter here.
