Adult males' moving to work in cities is Causing a challenge to the traditional function of bringing up children and supportiong the elderly, said Shen Shuji, who is also an official of the all-China Women's Federation.
She recommended certain measures, including a special policy to guarantee educationalopportunities for such children, accelerating(加速) the establishment of pension (养老金) and medical care systems in rural areas, and encouraging enterprises and non-governmentalorganizations to help such families.

But the absence of their children has left many old people in a difficult situation. They have to continue to work in farms while taking care of their grandchildren, Shen said.
The country should gradually scrap(消除) the decades-old bi-polar system(双轨制) separating rural and urban areas, which prevents farmers from enjoying the equal rights.

In the Caucasus region of Russia nearly 50 out of every 100,000 people live to celebrate their 100th birthday, and many don't stop at 100! By comparison, in America only 3 in 100,000 people reach 100. But these Russian old people aren't alone. The Pakistanis, who live in the Himalaya Mountains and the Uilcabambans of the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, seem to share the secret of long life, too. These people remain healthy in body and spirit in spite of the passage of time. While, many persons in industrial societies become weak and iii in their 60s and 7Os, some Georgians, aged 110 to 140, work in the fields beside their great grandchildren. Even the idea of aging is foreign to them. When asked," atwhat age does youth end?" most of these old people had no answer. Several replied, "well, perhaps at the age of 80", the very youngest estimate was at the age of 60.
What accounts for this ability to survive to such an old age, and to survive so well? First of all, hard physical work is a way of life for all these long-lived people. They begin their long days of physical labor as children and never seem to stop.
All these people get healthful rewards from the environment in which they work. They all come from mountains regions. This reduced-oxygen environment makes the heart and blood vessel system stronger.
Another factor that may contribute to the good health of these people is their isolation. To a great extent, they are separated from the pressures and worries of industrial society. Inherited(遗传的) factors also play some role.
67. Why does the writer mention some long-lived people in the first paragraph?
A. To surprise his readers. B. To introduce the subject of the article.
C. To tell you the difference between people in the Soviet Union and America.
D. To tell you why Americans dofft live as long as other people.
68. How many factors that contribute to long life of the people are mentioned in the passage?
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
69. From the writer's viewpoint, industrial society _________.
A. is highly developed and beneficial to people
B. is a great advance in human history
C. is full of pressures and therefore bad for people's health
D. can make peoplffs life better and better
70. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. It is beneficial for people to work and live in industrial society.
B. People should relax themselves from high pressures of life in industrial society.
C. The more hard physical work you do, the more healthy you will be.
D. People's health mainly depends on inherited factors.

China is going green. In order to reduce air pollution and oil shortages, automobile manufacturers have announced their plans to develop hybrid (混合燃料) vehicles for the Chinese market.
Toyota's hybrid car Prias will be ready to drive in China soon. Let's have a look at the new car.
Any vehicle is a hybrid when it combines two or more sources of power. Hybrid cars use an electric motor with rechargeable batteries and a gasoline engine. A hybrid car has a special engine, which is smaller than traditional gasoline engine and an electric motor. The gasoline engine provides 99% of the power when the car is cruising (匀速行车). The electric motor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra acceleration(加速度) is needed.
Step into a Prias, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is that it is quieter than a traditional car. At this point, the car's gasoline engine is dormant. The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 km/h. If you stay at low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with.no gasoline being used, and no waste gas given off.
An on-board computer decides when to use the gasoline engine, when to go electric, and when to use a combination of the two. If you go over 24 km/h, when you step on the gas pedal(油门), you are telling the computer how fast you want to go.
The electric motor recharges automatically when braking. And when driving at certain speeds, the gasoline engine not only powers the car but also recharges the batteries. When you use the brake, the electric motor acts like a generator to produce electricity to recharge the batteries. Batteries will last for around 200,000 miles.
71. When the hybrid car is cruising,_________.
A. there is no need to provide power
B. only the electric motor provides power
C. only the gasoline engine provides power
D. both the gasoline engine and the electric motor provide power

听下面一段对话。回答第6至第8三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: We've just moved into a house.
W: Really? Congratulations!
M: Thank you, and we want to buy a new television set.
W: What kind of television do you want to buy?
M: A colour TV set, of course, but I'm not sure about the size. Maybe we should buy a big one. If we buy a small one, we might have to change it in a few years' time for a bigger one. That would be a waste of money. What's your opinion?
W: In my opinion, I don't think it's necessary to buy a very big one.
M: Any reason?
W: Yes. As I know, your sitting mom isn't very big. If you put in a very big TV set, it will be bad for your eyes, and a smaller TV set can still pick up good programmes.
M: Mm, that's quite true. I'll think about it.
W: You’d better make a quick decision because the price may go up soon.
听下面一段对话,回答第9至第11三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
W: Dad, can you lend Jenny and me some money?
M: For what?
W: We want to get tickets for a rock concert. We'll pay you back out of baby-sit-ting.
M: How much are these tickets?
W: Eighteen dollars each.
M: Eighteen dollars? That's a lot of money.
W: That's not very much for this band, Dad. They are great singers, very popular.
M: When will you need the money?
W: Bob is also going and he's going to town tomorrow to get the tickets.
M: All right. Here's a fifty.
W: Thanks a lot, Dad. I'll call Bob right now.
听下面一段对话,回答第12至第14三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: Morning, Alice. Did you enjoy your weekend in the country?
W: Yes, thanks. We had a great time. And some friends went with us.
M: Where did you stay? In a hotel?
W: We camped in the mountains, near Snowdown. We cooked all our meals on an open fire and ate outside.
M: Sounds wonderful. Was the weather good?
W: The sun shone almost every day and it didn't rain once.
M: Did you like the people there?
W: Yes, they were great and friendly. We met some farmers and had tea in their houses.
M. When did you get back? Last night?
W: No. You might think we were mad. We came back this morning. I got up at 4:30, left at 5:00 and arrived here at 9:00. I'm so tired. What about you? Did you have a good weekend?
M: Yes, but I didn't do much. I just stayed in. The weather was terrible.
听下面一段对话,回答第19至第17三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: Hi, Jane. It's nice to see you again. I heard that you went to the US during the vacation.
W: Yes. I went to New York to attend a summer course in English.
M: Wow. You were lucky. How long did you stay there?
W: About 50 days. I went there on July 5th and came back on August 25th.
M: How about the course?
W: The course was very good. The teachers Were nice. They taught us to listen, speak, read and write in English, but it was mostly speaking. One interesting thing I found was that the American classes are different from our classes here because the students have a lot. more freedom. You can sit anywhere you like in the classroom. You can ask the teachers questions at any time during the class, and you are welcome to share your ideas with the class. I really liked this kind of class.
M: How interesting! Maybe our teacher should try that.
听下面一段独自,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
Two years ago my husband bought me a bicycle. If you live in a town, itis often faster than a car and you don't have to worry about parking. You can leave it in any place you like. As it has a seat at the back and a basket ar the front, I can take my little daughter to sch, ool and the library, and I can go shopping to any place in fact. I use it most in summer when the weather is warm and dry. It can be very unpleasant in winter though when the weather is cold and rainy. It can also be very dangerous. You should of course be careful on a bicycle. Accidents are not theonly problem. One day I went shopping and came back to find my front wheel was missing. It was a long walk to the bicycle shop! Now I have three strong locks.
My husband uses my bicycle sometimes foe an outing. He is not good at ridinga bicycle, but he says it is better than waiting for a bus. He still likes his car best. I think all day sitting down in a car is making him fatter and fatter. On my bicycle I get a lot of exercise and fresh air, and riding makes me feel a lot younger.
