Recently ,in the hope of earning both money and social experience, I became a door-to-door salesman. I once read a saying: “If somebody wants something of you ,you will be treated as warmly as spring ,but if they don’t you may be treated as coldly as winter.” You may consider it an exaggeration, but if you are a salesman ,it is clearly correct.
You would never found it to be so true if you hadn’t been a salesman. You needn’t stand a doubtful looks and unfriendly views; you needn’t listen to something completely wrong and nod to say that it was quite right; you needn’t always keep patience and a smile; you needn’t repeat the same sentences over again; you needn’t talk to somebody you dislike…
I did this work for a month; then I decided to give it up .In spite of the above reasons, I found I was paying too much attention to the job and thus sacrificing my study time. The latest test result proved that my grades were getting lower. Even worse ,I hadn’t enough time to join my classmates in college activities. Sometimes I felt lonely and unhappy because both my study and my part-time job. Now I don’t think it is worth doing such a thing even though I was earning money at great cost.
Newspapers and magazines often publish stories about good students who do part-time work and keep high scores in class. But according to my experience, part-time work can have some strong bad effects on study.
Most students don’t see the relationship between studies and work in a correct way .In my opinion, if it isn’t must for money reasons, students should be cautious about taking up a part-time job. In western countries even the children of very rich families take part in hard jobs during the summer vocation.

C.it’s hard to plan study and work correctly

A.Every college student.
B.Those who want to get social experience.
C.Those in great need of money.
D.Those from very rich families in western countries.

Through a series of experiments an American scientist has gained an understanding of the social structure of the most complex of ant societies. The ants examined are the only creatures other than man to have given up hunting and collecting for a completely agricultural way of life. In their underground nests they cultivate gardens on soil made from finely chopped leaves. This is a complex operation requiring considerable division of labour. The workers of this type of ants can be divided into four groups according to the size .Each of the groups performs a particular set of jobs.
The making and care of the gardens and the nursing of the young ants are done by the smallest workers. Slightly larger workers are responsible for chopping up leaves to make them suitable for use in the gardens and for cleaning the nest. A third group of still larger ants do the construction work and collect fresh leaves from outside the nest. The largest are the soldier ants ,responsible for defending the nest.
To find out how good the various size-groups are at different tasks ,the scientist measured the amount of work done by the ants against the amount of energy they used .He examined first the gathering and carrying of leaves. He selected one of the size-groups ,and then measured how efficiently these ants could find leaves and run back to the nest. Then he repeated the experiment for each of the other-size-groups .In this way he could see whether any group could do the job more efficiently than the group normally undertaking it.
The intermediate-sized ants that normally perform this task proved to be the most efficient for their energy costs, but when the scientist examined the whole set of jobs performed by each group of ants it appeared that some sizes of worker ant were not ideally suited to the particular jobs they performed.
60.In which way are the ants different from other non-human societies?

Birds flock to parks in up-market neighborhoods, avoiding those in the poorer parts of town ,researchers have discovered.
Anne Kinzig and her colleagues at Arizona State University studied 15 parks in Phoenix and found the most diverse bird populations in the smartest parts of town. To their surprise ,the socio-economic factors explained bird diversity better than anything about park ecology ,such as tree diversity and vegetation structure. In fact, parks in the poorest parts of town had the highest tree and vegetation diversity ,but the lowest bird diversity. “We wouldn’t have guessed it.” says Kinzing. “It’s telling us we need to look further into a field for the answer.”
Her team is now trying to track down exactly what it is about luxurious neighborhoods that the birds like. One possibility is that rich people have bigger gardens so there are more habitats ,surrounding the parks. Also ,they may be more likely to feed the birds or perhaps offer a better menu. Mike Thomas of the British Trust for Ornithology is not surprised by the results. “The area around gardens and parks determines which birds visit,” he says that lager gardens tend to contain a greater variety of habitats and so can support different bird species.
A spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Protection for birds adds that two thirds of UK households put food out for their garden visitors: “It is arguably the nation’s biggest pastime—certainly more popular than watching football.”
64.Which of the following can be concluded from the text?
A.People in UK are very happy with the visitors to their gardens.
B.Watching football used to be more popular than bird-watching.
C.Many families in UK enjoy feeding birds in their gardens.
D.Rich people like to provide food to the birds in their gardens.
65.By saying “We wouldn’t have guessed it.”, the writer meant that the team didn’t expect .
A.birds always gathered around the parks in rich areas of town
B.the park ecology could affect the bird diversity so greatly
C.the answer for bird diversity needed their further research
D.the least diversity of birds was found in the highest trees
66.What causes birds to gather around the rich areas?
A.The tall trees and the vegetation there.
B.The large population living there.
C.The big parks and the large lawns there.
D.The better food and the richer habitats there.
67.The main idea of the passage should be .
A.Birds are close friends for British families.

C.Birds have got used to living a rich life.
D.Birds tend to have a rich life.

A child who has once been pleased with a tale likes ,as a rule ,to have it retold in the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as sacred texts. It is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book ,and ,if a parent can produce what , in the actual situation of the time and the particular child, is an improvement in the printed text ,so much the better.
A charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him or awakening his cruelty. To prove the latter, one would have to show in a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often guilty of cruelty than those who had not. Cruelty every child has. And on the whole, its staying in the words seems much safer than turning to actual action.. As to fears ,there are, I think, well-proved cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy story. Often ,however ,this happens in the children having heard the story once. Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered .There are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, and that ,instead of satisfying his imaginations in fairy tales, the child should be taught how to reason with them. If their case were sound , the world should be full of madmen attempting to fly from New York to Philadelphia on a broomstick or covering a telephone with kisses in the belief that it was their enchanted girl friend.
No fairy story ever declared to be a description of the outside world and no sensible child has ever believed that it was.
68.The author considers that a fairy story is more effective when it is .
A.repeated without variety
B.used for a correct purpose
C.suited to the age of the child
D.changed a little by the parents
69.In the opinions of some people fairy stories .
A.increase the possibility to be cruel in children
B.produce the original cruelty in children
C.tell children how to be cruel to others
D.cause trouble in controlling the children
70.The author thinks that fairy stories are a means by which .
A.children’s cruelty can be freed harmlessly
B.children’s fear can be turned into pleasure
C.children’s cruelty can be held until adulthood
D.children’s fear can be measured exactly
71.According to the author ,for a child ,fairy tales .
A.cause no fear at all
B.cause too many imaginations
C.cause a sense of madness
D.cause no confused feeling
