Scientists are developing a new kind of machine to take the place of humans. These machines can do jobs in places that are too dangerous for humans. For example, they are being developed to work in nuclear(核的) power center, deep under the oceans and in outer space.
John Marrit, a psychologist(心理学家)in Williamsburg Massachusetts, helped develop the new machine. This is how they work. A machine is placed in an area far away from the person who operates it. The person wears special hard hat with television screens and sound equipment. The screens and sound equipment let the person see and hear exactly what the machine is seeing and hearing. Mr. Marrit says this gives the person the feeling of being in the same place as the machine. The idea he says, "is being there without going there. "The person uses an electronic control to make the machine move. The machine copies the person's movements exactly. If the person raises his right arm, the machine raises the right arm, too. This means an expert can do a dangerous job while staying in the safe place. For example, a person can direct the machine to destroy a bomb without going near the bomb himself.

Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals have long been accused(起诉) of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.
Farmers can also call on the services of their local hunters to control the fox population. Hunting is made up of running after a fox across the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs finally catch the fox they kill it or a hunter shoots it.
People who take part in hunting foxes think of it as a sport: they wear a special uniform of a red coat and white trousers, and follow strict rules of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly is expensive, so most fox hunters are wealthy.
It is said that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox hunting. But over scores of years the number of people who are strongly against fox hunting, because they think it is cruel, has risen sharply. Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to take place without some kind of confrontation (冲突) between hunters and hunt saboteurs (阻拦者). Sometimes these incidents lead to fighting, but mostly saboteurs prevent the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail(痕迹,臭迹) of the fox's smell, which the dogs follow.
Noisy confrontations between hunters and saboteurs have become so common that they are almost as much a part of hunting as the game of running after foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox hunting face a much bigger danger to their sport. A Labour Party Member of the Parliament , Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to agree on a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the law in Britain.

Most people feel lonely sometimes, but it usually only lasts between a few minutes and a few hours. This kind of loneliness is not serious. In fact it is quite normal. For some people, though, loneliness can last for years. Now researchers say there are three different types of loneliness.
The first kind of loneliness is temporary.(暂时的 ). This is the most common type. It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second kind ,situational loneliness, is a natural result or a particular situation---- for example, a family problem, the death of a loved one, or moving to a new place. Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, such as headaches and sleeplessness,, it usually does not last for more than a year.
The third kind of loneliness is the most severe(严重的). Unlike the second type, chronic (长期的) loneliness usually lasts more than two years and has no specific cause. People who experience habitual loneliness have problems socializing and becoming close to others. Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their condition.
Psychologists agree that one important factor in loneliness is a person's social contacts, e.g, friends, family members, co-workers, etc. we depend on various people for different reasons. For instance, our families give us emotional support, our parents and teachers give us guidance, and our friends share similar interests and activities. However, psychologists have found that, though lonely people may have many social contacts(接触), they sometimes feel they should have more. They question their own popularity.
Psychologists are trying to find ways to help habitually lonely people for two reasons: they are unhappy and unable to socialize and there is a connection between chronic loneliness and serious illness such as heart disease. While temporary and situational loneliness can be a normal, healthy part of life, chronic loneliness can be a very sad, and sometimes dangerous condition.
71.How would you treat temporary loneliness according to the passage?

A. one problem of loneliness is a person's social contacts
B. we depend on various people for different reasons.
C. lonely people don't have many social problems
D. lonely people don't have many friends
74. why do psychologists want to help chronically lonely people ?
A. Chronic loneliness can cause family problems
