What can you do if you“lose” the data from your disks? To find an expert, who would recover the lost information for you,is probably the easiest solution. Jack Olson is one of these experts. Jack and a few of his friends set up a company called“Jack’s Disk Doctor Service” in 1984. They work at home and give all the money they earn to charity. The fees are always the same,no matter how precious the data on the disk is. Some people, however, are so grateful that they send extra money to Jack or to the charities his company supports. One oil company offered him $ 2000 for his help and an architect even sent him a blank check.
It would be difficult to put a value on the things rescued by the Disk Doctor. There have been disks containing medical research, television scripts, manuscripts of whole books,a lawyer’s papers for a court case, and even Margaret Thatcher’s travel plan.
For this last case,Jack had to go in person to Thatcher’s office for security reasons!
Disks are usually sent to the Disk Doctor by post, but sometimes people are in such a hurry that they cannot wait for the mail to come. For example, some radio scripts had to be rushed by taxi to Jack’s house because they were needed for broadcasting next day. When the material has been recovered, the disk is returned to the sender with a diagnosis and a prescription for avoiding the problem in the future. One grateful client, and author, put a“thank you” to Jack in the front of his book. “Jack saved me from a heart attack,”he wrote. “But,”says Jack,“most people don’t take any notice of the doctor’s advice!”

64.From the statement“But…most people don’t take any notice of the doctor’s advice!”We can infer that .
A、most people don’t take medicine regularly.
B、many of Jack’s patients would probably get sick again.
C、many of Jack’s clients have sought for his help more than once.
D、Most people don’t read the instruction when using a computer.

British Gas is at your service all winter. The weather forecast says that cold weather is coming. A fall of five degrees centigrade can cause a 20% increase in the use of gas,so the engineers at British Gas sent out the weather information to their compressor stations(压气站). The porter brings your bags to your room and helpfully explains all you want to know. Then he points to the phone and says:“If there is anything else you need, just call.”All this time you have been thinking one thing:“How much should I tip him?”To make your next trip a little easier, here is a guide to tipping across some Asian countries.
Bangkok
In general, the more westernized the place is,the more likely you will be expected to leave a tip. Some top-end restaurants will add a 10% service charge to the bill. If not, waiters will appreciate it that you add a 10% yourself, however,if you are eating at lower-end restaurant a tip is not necessary. If you are staying at one of Bangkok’s many five-star hotels, expect to tip the porter 20 to 50 habit. Depending on how many bags you have. Taxis are now metered in Bangkok. Local custom is to round the fare up to the nearest five habit.
Hong Kong
Tipping is customary in this money-mad metropolis. Most restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill, but the extra money often ends up in the pocket of the owner. If the service is good, add another 10% to the bill,up to HK$100 in an especially nice restaurant. For HK$10 hotel porters should do it at all but the nicest hotels where a new HK$20 Bill many be more acceptable. When in a taxi, round up to the nearest dollar.
Kuala Lumpur
Tipping in Malaysia is limited to the expensive westernized hotel, which often add a 10% service charge to your meal or hotel room. If you are at a hotel restaurant, expect a 10% service charge. But at local restaurants, there is no need to add a tip. At five-star hotels, one or two ringgit will content a porter(a person who helps carry baggage). At lower-end buildings don’t feel you have to tip. Like Bangkok, many taxis are no metered so you can just round up to the nearest ringgit.
Seoul
Tipping is not part of Korean culture, although it has become a matter of course in international hotels where a 10% service charge is often added. If you are at a Korean barbecue joint, there is no need to add anything extra. But a nice Italian restaurant may require a 10% contribution. If you are at a top-end hotel,so expect to pay 100-1,000 Won per bag. Taxi driver doesn’t accept a tip. Keep the charge for yourself.
72.In which of the following cities is it unnecessary to tip the taxi-driver?
A、Bangkok B、Hong Kong C、Kuala Lumpur D、Seoul
73.Which of the following is not the unit of money?
A、Charge B、Habit C、Won D、ringgit
74.From the text, you can infer tipping comes from .
A、Hong Kong B、the West C、Asian countries D、Bangkok
75.If you stay at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur, how much will you pay the porter at least?
A、10% of service charge. B、One ringgit.

Dear Editor,
I’m worried about the effect of television on its viewers, especially on our children. First, there are a lot of violence shown on TV,and many children copy what they see. Second, the advertisements cause them to ask their parents to buy what they see on TV,such as candies and toys. Also, sitting in front of the television set all day is bad for their eyes. Many children have to wear glasses and I believe it is because of the long hours they spend watching TV.
I hope my letter can be published in your newspaper as soon as possible so that people can have a discussion on / about it.
Best wishes,
A worried mother
