It is matter of common observation that although money incomes keep going up over the years, we never seem to become much better off ! Prices are rising continuously. This condition is named one of inflation (通货膨胀); the money supply is</PGN0040.TXT/PGN>becoming inflated so that each unit of it becomes less valuable. We have grown used in recent years to higher and higher rates of inflation. What could be bought ten years ago for one dollar now costs well over two dollars. Present indications (迹象) are that this rate of inflation is tending to rise rather than to fall. If in the real world our money incomes go up at the same rate as prices, one might think that inflation does not matter. But it does. When money is losing value it lacks one of the qualities of a good money----stability of value. It is no longer acceptable as a store of value; and it becomes unsuitable standard of deferred (延期的) payments. Nobody wants to hold a wasting asset (财产) , so people try to get rid of money as quickly as possible. Inflation therefore stimulates (刺激) consumer spending, and prevents saving.
64.Over the years, our incomes have been increasing, and we ____.
A.seem to be well off at a quicker rate
B.are actually no better, if not worse, in our financial condition
C.can afford to buy more of the things that we want.

B.employment no longer becomes a problem
C.people can always find better paying jobs
D.money keeps losing its value
66.If incomes and prices rise together, people might think that ____.
A.there will be no more market fluctuations (波动)
B.money will hold its value
C.inflation will remain to be a problem
D.inflation causes no problem
67.In a period of inflation, people are likely to ____.
A.invest heavily on the stock market
B.save money
C.hold on to money as a dependable asset
D.spend money and not bother to save

I was in a strange city and I didn't know the city at all, and what is more, I could not speak a word of the language. After having spent my first day in the town-centre, I decided to lose my way on my second day, since I believed that this was the nearest way of getting to know the strange city.
I got on the first bus that passed, rode on it for several stops, then got off it and walked on. The first two hours passed pleasantly enough. Then I decided to turn back to my hotel for lunch. After walking about for some time, I decided I had better ask the way. The trouble was that the only word I knew of the language was the name of the street in which I lived and even that I pronounced badly .
I stopped to ask a friendly-looking newspaper-seller. He smiled and handed me a paper. I shook my head and repeated the name of the street and he put the paper into my hands. I had to give him some money and went on my way. The next person I asked was a policeman. The policeman listened to me carefully, smiled and gently took me by the arm. There was a strange look in his eyes as he pointed left and right and left again. I politely and began walking in the direction he pointed.
About an hour passed and I noticed that the house were getting fewer and fewer and green fields were appearing on either side of me. I had come all the way into the countryside. The only thing left for me to do was to find the nearest railway station.

Before any period of exercise it is well worth spending two or three minutes warming up with a series of simple stretching exercises. This not only helps your joints (关节) to move easily but also prepares all your muscle groups for more energetic activity. It is rather like a cat stretching itself before it springs into action. Here are four movements to do in an easy and unhurried way, gently stretching each action without forcing it. Repeat each movement ten times, breathing normally throughout.

Ⅱ. Standing with your feet apart, and hands on hips (臀部). Tip your head back and look straight up to the ceiling. Roll your head round slowly to face the right, then the floor, then the left, and finally up at the ceiling again. Repeat in the other direction.
Ⅲ. Standing with your feet apart and hands on your sides, lean first to the right and then to the left, sliding the hand down the side of the leg.
Ⅳ. Standing feet apart and arms out straight in front, with your eyes fixed on your right hands, as far as it will go. Return it to the front and repeat with the left arm.

Text10
My first Spring Festival in north China was a bit of a shock. Where was the spring? There was snow on the ground and ice on the Summer Palace lake and a north west wind was blowing. In England, where I come from,we think of flowers in spring.
Then I had another problem. In Beijing, although there is snow and ice, it's ofthen sunny over the Spring Festival. So I liked to be out, to walk in the snow round the Summer Palace lake or to skate on Kunming Lake. Then we'd come home and found that old friends had called on us while we were out. So gradually we learned how the Chinese people spent the Spring Festival. The first day is for family get together. The second and third days are for paying and receiving visits. So we changed our holiday life style and stayed at home or called on friends those days.
These days we don't always stay in Beijing for the Spring Festival. Sometimes we go on a trip to some other part of China. Last year we were lucky enough to go to Hainan Island. Instead of skating we went swimming. That was a treat. The sea-water in February was warmer than it is in the middle of the summer in England. That made up for those snowy, icy, windy Beijing springs.
21.D change A for B,“把A换成B”。
23.C 做定语的choose不能与models构成动宾关系,即不能是choose models而应是choose from the models。
24.D 不能选B,因为of which windows中缺少定冠词。
25.D 回答when的提问时用during不用for。
27.D 句尾的I suppose是对语气的弱化,故用A、C不当。
29.A mean+
33.C one在这指one/a watch。
34.B even though=even if意为“即使”。

take apart为“夺走”。
42.B put one's arms around
43.C gift“礼物”。
44.C part
46.B make a difference“对……起作用,产生影响”。
47.B meaning“意义”。

52.C in…condition
54.C more than his eyes“不仅仅是他的眼球”。

The Change of Women's Status
I left china before liberation. In the old days women were looked down upon. They couldn't go to school when they were little girls. When
they grew up, only a few of them could find jobs. At home they did all housework. They washed all the clothes, cooked three meals every day
and cleaned the house.
But now they can go to school and even receive a higher education. At home, most of them are good mothers and wives. But different from
the past, they can do what the man do.They make great achievements in every field. What a great change it is!
