Football is the most popular game in England: one has only to go to one of the important matches to see this. He will tell you proudly who he expects will win the game, and his opinion is usually right.

Most schools in England take football seriously----much more seriously than all the other European schools, where lessons are the most important and games are left for privage arrangements(自行安排) .In England, it is believed that education is not only a matter of filling a boy' s mind with facts in a classroom, education also means character training; and one of the best ways of training character is by means of games, especially team games, where the boy has to learn to work with others for his team instead of working selfish for himself alone. The school therefore arranges games and matches for its pupils. Football is a good team game, it is good exercise for the body, it needs skills and a quick brain(智力) , and it is cheap. As a result, it is the schools favourite game in winter.

A few hours before daybreak, Holmes woke up his friend and said, “Watson, Look up and tell me what you can see and think of. ”Watson did so and said, “What does this suggest to you, good friend?” The doctor thought for a moment and said,“I can think of many things, Holmes…from a scientific standpoint, the millions of stars visible suggest there are ten fold planets moving around those stars. ”“Go on,”said Holmes. Watson thought a moment more and continued, “From a religious standpoint, I can see that from a weather-reporter's standpoint, from a clear sky, I think that tomorrow will be quite sunny. So tell me Holmes, what do you think by this wonderous sight?”Holmes replied, “Watson, how foolish you are! Someone stole our tent!”

.D

.B for the year表示连续的,不间断的,这不符合生活实际。

.D Jane

.A settle oneself

.B 火车开出车用pull out(of the station)。

.A 从下文to read可知Jane拿出的是书。

.C Jane

.A Jane

.D Rochester

.D A项时态与文中的句子while her mother tried to telephone a doctor and police for help不符,两句表达的不是相同的含义。 C项与文中的句子her sister…had begun to strangle所用时间不一致。

.D 从文中and his opinion is usually right来看,应该是有意义的。

It was just one of those days!

Education in China has been developed rapidly for the past few years. More and more special schools, colleges and universities are established for students to study in. Advanced equipments are introduced to promote the quality of education.

Nevertheless, some problems are still affecting the education in China, which can't be ignored. For example, a large number of people in the countryside are illiterate, even not knowing how to write their names. Some children have to deprive themselves of studying for the sake of poverty.

Measures should be taken to enhance the education in China. Government is responsible for popularizing the education. Everyone is bound to learn enough to adjust to the progress of science and technology.
