Don’t try telling Mark Bouch that dogs are man’s best friends. His pet Keilar helped land him in prison. She dropped his package of amphetamine(安非他明) at the feet of police as they began a search of his house.

Bouch, 26, was sure that the two officers would not find the package after he hid it in the bathroom. But he failed to take into consideration dogs’ natural instincts and now he is starting a nine-month prison sentence.

Michelle Lockhart, 20, Mark’s girlfriend at the time, said yesterday: “I put the dog into the bathroom to get it out of the way. The next thing I knew, Keilar had a package in her mouth. Mark had hidden it in the bathroom and it was just on the floor there. I couldn’t believe it when the dog came out and put it right in front of the policemen. It was just following its instinct to pick things up. The police looked as surprised as I was and Keilar just looked really pleased with herself. She really gave the game away. I haven’t spoken to Mark since it happened.”

The police had arrived at Bouch’s home in Wigton, Cumbria, after a warning. They were puzzled to see a pet dog run out from behind a chair with a package in her mouth.

It is believed that Keilar had found the drugs in the bathroom before moving quickly down behind the furniture and then presenting the officers with her find. The Americans believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollywood comedy, that is exactly what happens.

Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical American way of life, except for one thing-he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation’s leader is that he is very nice!

The president has started using look-alikes during some public appearances. Dave is offered a chance to “serve his country” by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.

Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic.

The film is 100% American. However, if you’ve ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you’ll enjoy Dave!

45. What is the purpose of the text?

A.To tell the reader about the American government.

According to a recent report, people can find many wrong and nonstandard English signposts everywhere in Beijing, such as in hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and banks. There is no doubt that correct and standard English signposts can make people convenient, especially when more and more foreigners come to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics. What’s more, Beijing is so large and famous a capital city in the world that the wrong or nonstandard English signposts will greatly affect its image. And also we Chinese will be misled in learning English. Therefore, measures should be taken to correct them as quickly as possible. (100字)
