第三部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)

第一节 选择题(共17小题, 满分34分)

A

Scholars and researchers have tried to discover what personality characteristics go along with success in intercultural experiences. Their findings have often been unclear or incomplete. But three characteristics stand out in their reports: patience, a sense of humor, and the awareness of being unclear.

Patience, of course, is the ability to keep calm even when things do not go as one wants them to. Impatience sometimes brings improvements in relations with other people, but usually it does not.

A person with a sense of humor is less likely to take things too seriously and more ready to see the humor in her own reactions than a humorless person. The value of a sense of humor really needs to be paid more attention.

“The awareness of being unclear” is a more difficult concept than patience an a sense of humor. Foreigners often find themselves in situations that are unclear to the newcomers. That is, they do not know what is happening in the situation. Perhaps they do not understand the local language well enough, or they do not know how some system or organization works, or they can’t be sure of different people’s roles in what is going on. “It’s like I just got here from the moon,” a Chinese graduate who newly arrived in the United States said, “Things are just so different here.”

56. The passage mainly tells us____.

A. it’s not easy to travel abroad

B. humor is very important in communication

C. some characteristics in communicating with foreigners

D. three main useful ways to make a success in life

57. According to the passage, which one is more difficult?

A. Patience

B. The awareness of being unclear

C. The sense of humor

D. Understanding each other

58. According to the writer, the Chinese student is ____.

A. not used to the culture in America

B. recently back from the moon

C. interested in the study of the moon

D. a hard-working student

59. It can be inferred that ____.

A. it is necessary to learn the language before you go to the country

B. Americans are used to the culture of other country

C. one needs many characteristics to live in another country

D. when living in a foreign land one should get enough courage

B

They’re everywhere. They’re on scooters(踏板滑车), purses, clothing, cell phones and even DVD players. People just can’t seem to get enough of their favorite cartoon characters.

Why Cartoons?

What is the consumers appeal of these animated characters? “People think the cartoons are like themselves,” says Errata Wang, a student at National Kaosiung Normal University.

Douglas Holt, a product researcher, agrees. Holt says people express their identities with the products they use and wear. Some cartoon characters represent specific qualities. These qualities come from a story or idea attached to the character. For example, people believe Astro Boy, a classic Japanese animated character, represents bravery and kindness. Consumers are attracted to these qualities.

For All Ages

Children aren’t the only enthusiastic consumers. For many adults, owning cartoon products is a chance to show that they are young. The Japanese character Doraemon has childlike humor, but his innocence(天真纯洁) has gained popularity with people of all ages. Owning products with animated characters can also be a statement of personal history. The characters remind adults of their childhood. Adults who grew up loving characters like Mickey Mouse and Snoopy want the world to know it.

Mysteriously Attractive

Most cartoon products have films or TV series to support their success. One outstanding exception is Hello Kitty. The cat’s popularity has continued without the help of media. Sanfio, the company that owns Hello Kitty, keeps her personality vague. This mystery helps the company sell more than 20,000 different Hello Kitty products.

Even though Hello Kitty’s personality is a mystery, her attraction is not. There may be many reasons why people love cartoon products. But the biggest reason is simple: They’re just so cute!

60. Which of the following is the main idea of the first paragraph?

A. There’s no enough favorite cartoon characters for people.

B. they like the high qualities of animated characters.

Who:All members of the soccer team

What:Team photo

When:Saturday,March 25,at noon

Where:Playing field 2.

Finally, before you hit “Send”,check the following:

◆Is the e-mail a “flame”? Never send an e-mail in anger,It could stay around forever and haunt(萦绕心头)your professional and personal life.

◆Check the “To” field. Is this really who you want to send the message to?

◆Spell-check the message.Does it have an error that can affect you badly?

64.The writer uses the old saying at the beginning of the passage to show that ________.

A.many people are good at driving

One of the most exciting questions to which scientists are seeking an answer is, “Are there living things anywhere in the universe? Is the earth the only body in the whole enormous universe where human beings or anything like human being exist?”

First we must consider what goes to make a human being whether plant or animal, and then what conditions living things need in order to go on living. Living things, like everything else, are made of atoms, and these atoms are grouped into molecules. A molecule is the very smallest bit you can have of any substance. When you break up a molecule of water, for example, you no longer have water at all, but only the atoms of which water is made—one atom of oxygen and two of hydrogen. The molecules of living things are made, not of two or three atoms, but of hundreds or thousands arranged in different, complicated patterns.

If they become too hot, there complicated molecule of living things break up into their separate atoms and cease to be living. Therefore, there cannot be life on the sun or any of the stars because they are far too hot, and there cannot be any life on a planet (which goes around the sun) if it is too close to the sun, as Mercury(水星) is.

However, living things need energy to make them breathe, grow and move. Non-living things, like rocks and metals, don’t need this. On earth plants and animals get their energy from the light and heat of the sun. Therefore planets that are very far from the sun and extremely cold and are not places where living things could exist.

68. Which of the following is true?

A. A molecule consists of a number of atoms

B. An atom consists of a number of molecules

C. Water is made up of two different molecules

D. Water is made up of a complicated pattern of atoms

69. Which of these is Not true? The sun____.

A. sometimes makes life possible

B. gives energy to living things

C. helps plants to grow

D. makes rocks and metals

70. All planets ____.

A. have atmospheres suitable for life

B. have very little atmosphere

C. go round the earth

D. go round the sun or other stars

71. The writer thinks that there may be living creatures on ____.

A. some of the planets going round the sun

B. other sun

C. other stars

D. planets going round other stars

72. The underlined word “cease” means____.

A. begin B. wish C. stop D. allow

第二节 简答题(共3小题, 满分6分)

阅读下面短文,根据第73至第75小题的具体要求,简要回答问题。

Peaceful Use of Space Resources Drives China’s Space Program

China’s successful launch of its second manned spacecraft Shenzhou-6 has drawn worldwide applause. It has become the third nation in the world capable of putting men into space.

It is widely believed that the latest progress made by China will surely make the country’s 1.3 billion people more confident in their future in terms of social and economic progress.

However, some people in and outside China describe China’s manned space program as a prestige project which yields little economic benefit.

They argue that billions of US dollars spent on the decade-old space program may be better used for poverty relief and education as millions of Chinese still have a poor living and many children cannot afford basic schooling. However, mankind does need to make use of space resources for sustainable human development, and people do this not to achieve fame but to benefit the world.

Space technology has become increasingly important for the exploration and peaceful use of space resources due to the shrinking reserve of natural resources on the earth.

Lunar energy is sufficient for human need for about 10,000 years, which is attractive to the mankind being troubled by high oil prices and limited oil reserve.

China has benefited from its investment in space sector. Space technology has become part of people’s daily life, such as weather forecast, telecommunications, disaster reduction, and resources prospecting.

Striving hard to feed its 1.3 billion people and more in the future, China has been developing improved species of crops on the basis of space technology, mostly through recoverable satellites and spacecraft.

Information obtained from Shenzhou-3 and Shenzhou-4 in Earth observation has been used for maritime (海上的) pollution control and desertification(沙漠化) control projects, which is useful for China and other parts of the world.

China has listed space technology and information technology among the country’s seven high-tech fields in its national high-tech research and development program initiated in 1986.

73. Find in the passage a word closest in meaning to the underlined word “prestige”.

74. Why do some people think China’s manned space program yields little economic benefits?(回答词数不超过13个)

75.What’s the author’s attitude to China’s manned space program? (回答词数不超过6个)

第四部分 书面表达(共两节,满分35分)

The field of accounting is divided into three broad divisions: public, private, and governmental. A certified public accountant(CPA) must pass a series of examinations, after which he or she receives a certificate. CPAs can offer their services to the public on an individual consultant basis for which they receive a fee. In this respect and many others, they are similar to doctors or lawyers. Like them, CPAs may be self-employed; or they may be employed by an accounting firm.

Many accountants work in government offices or for nonprofit organizations. These two areas are often joined together under the term governmental and institutional accounting. The two are similar because they both have legal restrictions on the way in which they receive and spend funds. Therefore, a legal background is sometimes necessary for this type of accounting practice.

Private accountants handle the financial records of a business. Like those who work for the government or nonprofit organizations, they are salaried rather than paid a fee.

Many people have chosen accounting as a profession because of its many advantages. Once on the job, private or governmental, they have security, and they are usually given the chance to move upward in the company--- sometimes, to the top. Salaries for people with accounting training are usually good, even on the lower levels, and for those who rise to the top of the profession, salaries are correspondingly high.
