第一节 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
The Good Deal Dilemma(进退两难的局面)
I am a strong believer in bargain shopping. I like to buy high quality Christmas paper every year in January when it goes 75% off. Even though I could save more by buying the superstore Christmas paper at a bargain price,it is worth it to me to get the nice paper and I am happy with my decision.
I bought 10 sets of Christmas china that were marked at 75 percent off plus an additional l0 percent. It was an amazing deal. When I got them home,I found they took half a closet to store. I already have nice china that I can use at Christmas. I decided it wasn’t worth it to me to use that much space for something that I would only use a couple of times In the year. I took them back and now I have more money in my checking account as well as some luxury towels I have wanted for a long time. I would have saved myself the time of taking the china back if I had figured out before hand what I really wanted, but it is sometimes hard to decide at the moment .This experience helped me to realize that you can actually save time and money by passing up bargains.
The main advantage of getting things on sale is that you can afford 1uxuries that you can’t afford at regular price. My Christmas tree is covered with beautiful handmade Santa Claus ornaments(装饰物). I found them at a store about 15 months ago and fell in love with them. I imagined how beautiful they would look on my tree. I wanted to buy some, but they were $13.95 each . It didn’t fit into our Christmas budget(预算),so I gave up the idea. Through the next few months, the price kept dropping until it went down to $2.95.When I saw that price,I bought 25 of them right away. I waited another nine months to put them on my tree, but in the end, I got exactly what I wanted for an excellent price. Instead of paying around $350,I ended up paying around $ 75. Patience paid off.

China now has 350 million smokers, accounting for one—third of the world total. Chinese smokers now become addicted(沉溺于) to nicotine at the age of 19, five years earlier than the average starting age of 24 in 1997.
Of the 1.1 billion smokers all over the world, more thin 800 million are in developing countries. And as the world’s largest developing country, China al-so has the largest number of smokers.
Some frightening facts start to appear when we examine who China’s smokers are. Of the 350 million addicts, more than 100 million are under the age of 18, while more than 50 per cent of male teachers and doctors are smokers.
Such a high rate of addicts among male teachers and doctors will certainly have a bad impact on the young generation.
Teachers are usually expected to be role models for students who tend to consider whatever they do is right and follow their example, It is very likely that the number of teenage smokers win increase in the near future unless measures are taken to forbid teachers from smoking in front of their students or designate(指定)schools as no—smoking zones.
What is truly puzzling is why so many doctors smoke . They are aware of the results of the habit, such as high blood pressure and lung cancer.
Their example only helps justify the addiction of so many others.
If educated people set an example by stopping smoking at least in public places, it would be much easier to drive home the notion that it is uncivilized to smoke in public places.
In China, there should also be a national law to ban smoking in public places.
These would make a massive contribution to cutting the number of people in China who are smoking themselves into early grave(坟墓).

According to the dictionary definition of “create”, ordinary people are creative every day. To create means“to bring into being , to cause to exist something each of us does daily。”
We are creative whenever we look at or think about something In a new way. First this includes an awareness(意识)of our surroundings. It means using all of our sense to become aware of our world. This may be as simple as being aware of color and texture(质地),as well as taste, when we plan a meal. Above all,it is the ability to notice things that others might miss.
A second part of creativity is an ability to see relationships among things. If we believe the expression,“There is nothing new under the sun,the creativity is remaking or recombining(重组)the old in new ways. For example,we might do this by finding a more effective way to study or a better way to arrange our furniture,or we might make a new combination of camera leases and filters to create an unusual photograph.”
A third part of creativity is the courage and drive to make use of our new ideas,to ask for them to achieve some new results. To think up a new idea is one thing;to put the idea to work is another.

C. A marl with an excellent ability of practice can easily become an inventor.
D. One may come up with a new thought, but may not put it into practice。

A. How to Develop One’s Creativity B.What is Creativity
C. The Importance of Creativity D. Creativity,a Not Faraway Thing

Every year there are changes h climate 10 different parts of the world. Some of these changes are due to natural causes. However, some climatic changes are caused by air pollution and these changes may Increase.
If the pollution affects the level of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)In the atmosphere, the results are likely to be serious.Carbon dioxide makes up only a small part of the atmosphere. But it has an important function in maintaining the balance between radiation from the sun entering the atmosphere and radiation leaving the Earth. Some of the radiation is absorbed by the Earth and some is radiated(被辐射)back Into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide in the atmosphere prevents some of the radiation from leaving the atmosphere. Thus the heat remains in the atmosphere and carbon dioxide helps to prevent the temperature of the Earth from falling.
If the proportion(比例)of carbon dioxide In the atmosphere is increased as a result of air pollution, the temperature of the atmosphere may rise. This might eventually cause the ice in the north and the south poles to melt. If this happened, the sea level would rise and parts of the Earth would be flooded. The likelihood of this happening is remote(遥远的),but the possibility exists.
There is also a fairly strong possibility that the dust level in the atmosphere will rise as a result of industrial pollution. This dust pollution will reflect sunlight back into space. If this happens, less sunlight will reach the Earth and the temperature will fall.
57.The main purpose of this passage is to tell us that .
A. the climate of the world is always changing
B. air pollution has greatly affected the climate of the world
C . carbon dioxide has something to do with climate dangers
D. Air pollution endangers the climate of the world
58.From this passage we learn that carbon dioxide .
A. helps to prevent the temperature of the earth from rising
B. keeps much of the sun’s radiation from entering the atmosphere
C. plays an Important part in keeping the balance of the temperature of the earth
D. is one of natural causes of climate changes
59.If the level of carbon dioxide In the atmosphere went down, the temperature of the earth would .
A. become higher B. either rise or fall
C. become lower D. neither rise nor fall
60. Which of the following is the least related to climate changes?
A. Parts of the earth would be flooded one day.
B. Less sunshine would reach the earth.
C. The temperature of the earth might rise.
D. The earth’s vegetation(植被)might be destroyed.

Slang greatly enriches the English language, and is an important part of English. However, as slang is informal, fast-changing and very localized, it often causes confusion and puzzlement to language learners. Therefore, it is no wonder that people have different opinions about whether it is necessary to learn slang. My experience of learning English tells me that slang plays a very important part in the English language, especially in speaking. Being familiar with English slang may make it easier to communicate with native speakers of English. And learning slang helps us to better understand the English culture. Like Chinese idioms, English slang is full of beauty and wisdom which well reflects the daily life of common people in England. What”s more, we can upgrade our English to a higher level simply by mastering some slang. So personally I regard slang as a necessary part of English learning.
