Here is a selection of the tours organized for the year 2007.

◆8 days mountaineering trip -- climb Yunnan' s third highest peak, the Haba snow mountain. This is ideal for the truly adventurous. You need to be fit and healthy and also fairly experienced at mountain climbing. Definitely not for the run-of-the-mill tourist!

◆ 8 days cycling tour--visit the spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge from Qiaotou Town. This is a pleasant tour suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit and healthy. No previous cycling experience is necessary and all the routes are on flat land!

◆8 days rafting trip -- white water adventure on the Yangtze from the old town of Lijiang. One of the faint-hearted! This adults-only tour is exclusively for good swimmers and the physically fit.

◆10 days rainforest trek-- spend 5 days in the forest and meet the local people. This is a walking tour for everyone. No previous experience is needed, just a curious mind and an interest in traditional cultures.

◆10 days horse trekking tour --visit authentic Tibetan villages of Shangri-la. The horse-riding experience is in a spectacular mountain environment and the trip is for top riders only. Don’t expect three-star hotels on this trip-- accommodation is very basic and comfort minimal. Plenty of contact with local people in this truly magnificent region.

No poems should ever be discussed or analyzed until it has been read aloud by someone, teacher or student. Better still is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end, so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it.

All discussions of poems are preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is the most telling "interpretation" of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on films, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching can not replace the student and teacher reading it or, best of all, reciting it.

I have come to think that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than analyzing it, if there isn' t time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is "a heightening of life" and "an approach to the truth of feeling". It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies.

I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. Those who don’t like it should not be forced to communicate this to anyone else. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense.

45.  According to the writer, to have a better understanding of a poem, one should________.

A. discuss it with others B. analyze it by oneself

C. copy it down in a notebook D. practice reading it aloud

46. According to the writer, one of the purposes of teaching English is to get students to____.

A. understand life B. enjoy poetry C. love poets D. recite poems

4'7. What does the last sentence in the third paragraph imply?

A. More importance should be given to the teaching of poetry.

B. The teaching of poetry is more important than any other subject.

C. One can' t understand life fully without an understanding of poetry.

D. Poetryis the foundation of all language and literature courses.

48. What kind of people is the text mainly written for?

A. Parents. B. Poets. C. Teachers of English. D. Teachers and students.

         C

Robert and Phyllis Evans had been considering themselves lucky for their three wonderful children.

One evening in 2006, the Evans became concerned when they noticed a red, indented(锯齿状的) mark on their son Joel's neck. It looked like the 14-year-old high school student had pulled his T-shirt fight around his throat, or maybe someone at school had been rough with him.

“What happened to your neck?" Mother asked.

“Oh, it's nothing," Joel said, and continued to play video games on his computer.

But some weeks later, when his parents came home one afternoon, they couldn’t find him. Phyllis Evans searched her son's bedroom and in the dark she saw a shadow by the window. "That’s where I found him," she says, her voice trembling. "He had the rope from the blinds (百叶窗) wrapped around his neck, and he was just hanging there. It was such a nightmare."

Robert Evans immediately called 911. He cut down his son, laid him on the bed and conducted CPR-- but it was too late. The coroner (验尸官) ruled the death a suicide, but because of Joel’s young age, questioned whether it was intentional. None of it made any sense to his parents. This wasn’t a troubled kid, or a kid who suffered from depression.

Recently, after seeing TV reports about a disturbingtrend popular among teens that goes by various names -- pass out, space monkey and the choking game-- the Evans believe they finally know what happened. The boy had been experimenting with the risky suffocation ( 窒息) game to achieve a drug-like high. As for how he learned about it, the Evans are convinced it was from the Internet.

49. Which of the following is the correct order of the events that happened to Joel?

a. Joel was asked by his parents about the mark on his neck.

b. Joel tried the game at home and made a red, indented mark on the neck.

c. Joel played the game in which he hanged himself.

d. Joel learned the game from the Internet.

e. Joel was given CPR.

A. d, a, b, c, e B. a, e, d, c,b C. a, c, d, e,b D. d,b, a,c, e

50. The Evans believe that________ and that was the reason for his death.

A. Joel took some drugs while playing the video games

B. Joel cut off oxygen to experience a short thrill

C. Joel was left alone to play the video games

D. someone else was rough with Joel while they played a game together

51. Joel' s suicide could have been avoided if______.

A. the coroner had come earlier

B. Father hadn't called 911

C. the Evans had taken the mark on Joel’s neck more seriously

D. Father hadn’t done CPR

52. What would be the best title for the text?

A. Thrills That Killed B. the Influence of the Internet

C. Games and Depression D. the Internet and Suicide

               D

European concern for wildlife was outlined by Dr Peter Baum, an expert in the environment and natural resources division of the Council, when he spoke at a conference arranged by the administrators of a British national park. The park is one of the few areas in Europe to hold the Council's diploma (证书) for nature reserves (保护区) of highest quality, and Dr Baum had come to present it to the park once again. He was afraid that public opinion was turning against national parks, and that those set up in the 1960s and 1970s could not be set up today. But Dr Baum clearly remained a strong supporter of the view that natural environments needed to be allowed to survive in peace in their own right.

“The short-sighted view that reserves had to serve immediate human demands for outdoor recreation should be replaced by full acceptance of their importance as places to preserve (保存) nature for the future."

“We forget that they are guarantee of life systems, on which any built-up area depends," Dr Bram went on, "We could manage without most industrial products, but we could not manage without nature. However, our natural environment areas, which are the original parts of our countryside, have got much smaller to become mere islands in a highly polluted land."

53. Why did Dr Baum come to a British national park?

A. To present it with a Council of Europe diploma.

B. Because he was concerned about its management.

C. Because it was the only national park of its kind in Europe.

D. Because it had never before received a diploma from the Council.

54. The last sentence in the first paragraph implies that_________.

A. people should create more natural environment areas

B. people will go on protecting national parks

C. national parks should be preserved

D. people should defend the right to live in a peaceful environment

55. In Dr Baum' s opinion, the view that a nature reserve should serve as a tourist attraction is___.

A. reasonable B. satisfactory C. traditional D. unacceptable

56. Which of the following can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A. We have developed industry at the expense of countryside.

B. We have forgotten what our countryside looked like.

C. People living on islands should protect natural resources for their survival.

D. We should destroy all the build-up areas.

(China Daily, Mar. 5, 2007)

China will strive to reduce its "very large" trade surplus (贸易顺差) to ensure the sustained development of both domestic economy and foreign trade, said Premier Wen in his government work report to the lawmakers in Beijing March 5, 2007.

China recorded a fast economic growth of 10.7 percent in 2006, largely powered by strong exports, which rose 33 percent to 866.2 billion US dollars.

Despite a slight 1.2 percentage points down in export growth and 2.4 percentage points up in import growth, China' s trade surplus last year expanded to a record of 177.5 billion dollars, up 74 percent from the previous record of 101.9 billion dollars set in 2005.

The surplus rose 67.3 percent in January from a year ago to 15.88 billion US dollars, a dangerous level to cause inflation (通货膨胀) and aggravate the already tense trading relations between China and its major trade partners.

To reduce the serious trade imbalance, the premier said the government will support export of high value-added products, promote the upgrading of the processing trade and expand the export of service and agricultural products, while limiting exports of products whose production is highly energy consuming or highly polluting.

For the part of imports, Wen stressed that imports of energy, raw materials and advanced technologies and equipment will be supported.

A. 33% B. 67.3% C. 2.4% D. 74%

59. Which of the following statements is TRUE.'?

A. China’ promoting the upgrading of the processing trade will lead to a rise in import.

B. China is taking measures to narrow its trade gap between import and export.

C. A strong export is bad for economy growth.

D. China will export more raw oil in the years to come.

60. The word "aggravate" in the fourth paragraph probably means__________.
