So they fight. And sometimes, they win. It may take years. It certainly takes support from parents and doctors.
Unfortunately, many parents can’t deal with their child’s illness. And doctors, no matter how caring, have other patients to care for. We’re a group of Hong Kong doctors, nurses, psychologists, parents of children with cancer and concerned persons. All of us are volunteers. We’re with the children every day, listening to and encouraging them. We also advise parents, educate the public and send doctors overseas to study new cancer treatments. Our funding has brought better equipment to the wards. And paid for special fiats where children can recover in a hygienic (卫生的), yet cheerful home setting.
We want to do even more. But to do it, we need your support. It will be money well spent. One looks at our past achievements should prove that. To the children, your contribution will also be a show of support. A sign that you’re behind them, which is just the sort of news that a six-year-old with cancer needs to hear.

Healthy relationships are fun and make you feel good about yourself. The relationships that you make in your teenage years will be a special part of your life. They will teach you some of the most important lessons about who you are. This may help you understand different kinds of relationships, what makes each relationship special, and how to communicate in a positive way.
What makes a relationship healthy?
Communication and Sharing: The most important part of any healthy relationship between two people is being able to talk and listen to each other. You and the other person can find out what your common interests are. You can share your feelings with the other person and trust that he or she will be there to listen to you and support you. In healthy relationships, people don’t lie. Communication is based on honesty and trust. By listening carefully and sharing your thoughts and feelings with other people, you show them that they play an important part in your life.
Respect and Trust: In healthy relationships, you learn to respect and trust important people in your life. Disagreements may still happen, but you learn to stay calm and talk about how you feel. Talking calmly helps you to understand the real reason for not getting along. It makes it much easier to figure out how to fix it. In healthy relationships, working through disagreements often makes the relationship stronger. In healthy relationships, people respect each other for who they are. This includes respecting and listening to yourself and your feelings so you can set boundaries and feel comfortable. You will find that you learn to understand experiences and feelings of others as well as having them understand your experiences and feelings.
How do I know that I have a healthy relationship with someone?
You know that you are in a healthy relationship with someone because you feel good about yourself when you are around that person. Unhealthy relationships can make you feel sad, angry, scared, or worried.
Healthy peer relationships involve an equal amount of giving and taking in the relationship. In unhealthy relationships, there is an unfair balance. You may often feel that you are giving the other person more attention than that he or she gives to you.
You should feel safe around the other person and feel that you can trust him or her with your secrets. In a healthy relationship, you like to spend time with the other person, instead of feeling that you have to spend time with him or her.

Japanese doctors have used thin sheets of tissue from people’s cheeks to repair damaged corneas (角膜). A team from Osaka University transplanted thin layers of cheek cells onto the eyes of four patients with a rare and painful eye condition, reports BBC online. Patients whose vision had been cloudy could see well afterwards, and the “new corneas” remained clear more than a year after the operation.
Doctors can also take cells from a healthy eye and grow them in a dish to produce a new cornea, or they can transplant corneas from donors. But these techniques may not work when both eyes are too badly damaged by accident or disease.
The team hope their work may help solve the problem and lead to other types of grow-your-own tissue transplants. The cornea is the clear layer of cells on the surface of the eye. It cat be damaged by trauma (外伤) or by a range of diseases.
The team worked with four patients who had a painful condition that caused cloudy corneas and dry eyes. Often the eye can regenerate cornea cells but none of the four patients had this ability. The researchers took a 3mm-wide square of tissue from inside the mouth (cheeks) and grew it into a thin layer in the lab. They used a special low-temperature technique to separate a very thin sheet off each batch (组). They then laid that onto the patient’s eye. The cell layers stuck onto the eye and developed into tissue that looked and acted like a healthy cornea.
However, long-term follow-up and experience with a large series of patients are needed to assess the benefits and risks of this method. “Yet, it does offer the potential of treating severe eye diseases that are resistant to standard approaches,” said the head of the research, Kohji Nishida.
65. Now doctors can repair the damaged corneas with the following methods EXCEPT ___________.
A. using mouth tissue
B. taking cells from a healthy eye and growing them in a dish

D. using finger tissue

A. only by using mouth tissue
B. by taking cells from a healthy eye and growing them in a dish
C. by transplanting healthy corneas from donors
D. by none of the mentioned methods
67. We can infer from the passage that________.
A. the new technique can be widely used in the operations
B. the new technique needs to be further tested
C. the new technique has more benefits than risks.
D. any new technique has risks
68. Which of the following is the best title?
A. A New Invention B. A New Technique
C. Mouth Tissue Can Restore Your Vision D. Transplanting Can Restore Your Vision

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. On Sunday, our nation will observe the fifth anniversary of the September the 11th terrorist attacks. Every American has memories of that day that will never leave them. We remember the images of fire and terror at the Pentagon (五角大楼), in Pennsylvania, and in the heart of New York City.
We remember the ruthlessness of those who murdered the innocent and took joy in their suffering. We remember the courage of the police and firefighters and rescue personnel who rushed into burning buildings to save lives, knowing they might never emerge (出现). And we remember the victims - moms and dads, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives - and the loved ones they left behind.
As night fell on America on September the 11th, 2001, we felt grief and great sorrow. Yet we also saw that, while the terrorist could kill the innocent, they could not defeat the spirit of our nation; The despair and tragedy of that day were overcome by displays of selflessness, courage and compassion (同情).
And in the days and weeks that followed, America answered history’s call to bring justice to our enemies and to ensure the survival and success of liberty. And that mission continues today.
Five years later, Americans remember the fears and uncertainty and confusion of that terrible morning. But above all, we remember the resolve of our nation to defend our freedom, rebuild a wounded city, and care for our neighbors in need.
Today, America is confronting another disaster that has caused destruction and loss of life. This time the devastation (破坏) resulted not from the malice (恶意) of evil men, but from the fury (狂怒) of water and wind.
Hurricane Katrina flattened entire towns along our Gulf Coast, and left one of America’s most storied cities under water. Tens of thousands have lost homes and loved ones and all their earthly (世间的) possessions. The storm took countless lives and forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee from their communities with no assurance of returning soon.

D. Americans only felt great sorrow
74. What does the underlined word “grief” probably mean in Paragraph 3?

1—5 CBCCA 6—10 CBCAB 11—15 CCABB 16—20 CACCA
根据后半句可知,miss的动作已发生;missed it为“I have missed it”的省略。
动词see的宾语为先行词the traffic problem,即:see the traffic problem solved。
25.B。 由“ … what’s wrong with your pen again?”
注意本空前省略了he didn’t not。
come straight to the point意思是“直说”,符合语意。
“A + no + 比较级+than + B”表示“A与B都不……”;根据句意,选B。
32.C。 keep back意为“扣留;扣下”;keep away意为“避开;离开”;keep off意为“使……不接近;使离开”;keep up意为“(士气等)不低落;(价格、工资等)保持高水准”。
35.A。 The able housewife made full use of the limited money to support such a big family.
43.B。 go out意为“出去;熄灭”;hang out意为“闲逛”;stand out意为“交出;显眼”;leave out意为“省去;遗漏”。

56.A。 从文中最后一段话 “But to do it, we need your support.”以及“To the children you’re behind them...”

Dear Joy,
I was very glad to receive your letter on November 10th, 2006. At your request, I’ll tell something about my school life.
In Grade 3 at my senior high school, I have six subject Chinese, English, physics, chemistry and PE. School hours usually begin at 8 am and end at 4 pm. After class, we have sports, such as ball games and so on, or do some reading in the school library. After school, I don’t usually go home at once. I have joined the School English Corner, where students can practice oral English with the foreign teachers and other students. Every afternoon, I spend one hour there before I return home.
Nantong is a really beautiful city. Welcome to Nantong.
I’ll appreciate it if you can also tell me something about your school life. I'm looking forward to it.
With best regards.
Yours ever,
Li Ming

Text 10
As the car industry develops, traffic accidents increase greatly. Yet, their cause and control remain a serious problem that is difficult to solve. Experts have long recognized that this problem has many causes. At the very least, it is a problem with three reasons: the driver, the roadway and the driving. If all drivers exercised good judgment at all times, there would be few accidents. But that is rather like saying that if all people were honest, there would be no crime. Improved design has helped make roadways much safer. But the type of accidents continued to rise because of human failure and a great increase in the number of cars on the road. Attention is now turning increasingly to the third reason for accidents, the car itself. Since people think that accidents are certain to happen, they want to know how cars can be built better to protect the driver.
