真题回放

例1 ( 2006年高考上海-28) A typhoon swept across this area with heavy rains and winds ______strong as 113 miles per hour.

  A. too B. very C. so D. as

思路点拨:D as strong as 113 miles per hour 表示“强度达到每小时113公里”。so…as…只用于否定句,不用于肯定句。

例 2 (2007年高考上海卷-25) Leaves are found on all kinds of trees, but they differ greatly ___ size and shape.

A. on B. from C. by D. in

思路点拨:D differ greatly in size and shape. 意为“大小形状大不相同”类似结构 A and B be different in…, A be different from B in…

例3(2007年高考辽宁卷-27) The information on the Internet gets around much more easily than _____in the newspaper. A. it  B. those C. one D. that

思路点拨:D that指代 the information不可数名词,不用those, the one代替;后有 in the newspaper修饰表示与 on the Internet的information不指同一概念,不用能it指代

例4 (2007年高考山东卷-30) -Where did you get to know her?

-It was on the farm __________ we worked.

A. that B. there C. which D. where

思路点拨:D 本句考查强调句型,但题干中所给的句子是一个不完整的句子,补充完整的话应该是It was on the farm where we worked that I got to know her。所填的where用来引导定语从句,修饰farm,同属于被强调部分。

例 5(2007年高考山东卷-34)In this seaside resort, you can ___ the comfort and convenience of modern tourism.

A. enjoy B. apply C. receive D. achieve

思路点拨:A  该题是词义辨析题。enjoy the comfort and convenience是“享受舒适和方便”的意思。

例6( 2006年高考浙江卷-13)I was given three books on cooking, the first ______ I really enjoyed.

  A. of that B. of which C. that D. which

思路点拨:B 这是一个定语从句,which指代three books。从句中有the first。因此关系代词前要加介词of,不能用that。

例 7(2006年高考福建卷-35 )Always read the______ on the bottle carefully and take the right amount of medicine.

  A. explanations B. instructions C. descriptions D. introductions

思路点拨:B instruction意为“说明,须知”,在正式场合,指不可违背的命令; 在一般的场合指知识性的指示或意见。

例 8(2006年高考安徽卷-28)Tom sounds very much ____in the job, but I’m not sure whether he can manage it.

  A. interested B. interesting C. interestingly D. interestedly

思路点拨:A  sound 意为“听起来”, 是系动词, 后接形容词,不与副词连用。但interesting意为“有趣的”; interested意为“感兴趣”常用于be interested in sth结构。根据句意可判断出汤姆听起来对这项工作感兴趣。

例9(2007年高考湖北卷-21)This magazine is very ______with young people, who like its content and style.

  A. familiar B. popular C. similar D. particular

思路点拨:B be popular with受……欢迎 be familiar with熟悉(通晓,精通) be similar to类似于 be particular about/ over对……讲究。

When we talk about a bad man, we like to call him a “wolf”. But is it really true that the wolf stands for devil and ugliness.

Have you read the book “The Wolf Totem” by a famous writer Jiang Rong, which tells the story of the relationship between wolves and human beings? Have you ever 16 the wolves' world? If you had, you would 17 the wolves.

In the book, wolves are heroes on the large grassland. They know more about 18 than humans. They can attack lambs without disturbing their mothers. They also know how to 19 full use of the shape of land to 20 sheep. I believe that if wolves were humans, they would be 21 experts good at fighting.

The wolf is a kind of special creature that can deeply understand 22 . Each wolf serves its group with its heart and soul. A 23 wolf has little power, but a pack of wolves 24 nothing. All the wolves obey the rules. 25 they are defeated, they run away together. It is their teamwork 26 makes wolves powerful.

To his 29 ,he found the little wolf still wanted to go back with 30 wolves. He bit through the iron chain that limited him. The wolf was 31 and he never gave in, fighting 32 his death. The little wolf died as a glorious fighter.

I was shocked by this kind of 33 : wolves are one of the most respected creatures on earth. I want everyone to look at wolves in a 34 way. They are our teachers. They show us how to survive and 35 in this not simple and dangerous world. Please honor the wolves, please honor all these heroes of nature!

The accident at Lake Sherwood was in our backyard. An SUV(运动型多用途车)had gone off the road, down a hill, and collided with a tree. When we heard the wreck, I remembered to say “call199”. My family was the first on the scene. Nick, my son, was on the cell phone with 911. He saw a friend who was a victim in the crash who was a 15 years old girl who was badly disfigured and had died instantly. It was a terrible scene.

There had been six people in the truck, all between 15 and 17 years old. My husband and I checked all the victims, and I picked one who was conscious and stayed with him. I talked with him and had him lay on the ground. When I asked him if he was hurt, he said he was sore all over. When help arrived, they asked me to stay and continue working with them. I did as Debbie Romine, my instructor, said in class, and did what they wanted. They even said thank you before they left.

The sheriff deputies came by Saturday night to get our statements and play the 911 tape back, so Nick could identify all the voices in the background. They said over and over that the way he handled the call was the best they had heard in a long time. He was calm and worked with them even when he saw his friend who had died. The Sheriff’s Department is sending some people over to help us work through our emotions.

The first aid and CPR course I took in January really helped me. I just didn’t expect to put it to good use so soon.

The quality of drinking water in Shanghai will meet European Union standard by 2010 and, a decade later, citizens in Shanghai will drink the best water in the world.

These were the goals set out by the Shanghai Water Authority. With the city's population expected to increase only slightly and the economy to boom by 2020, Chen Yin, an official with the water authority, said Shanghai's water consumption will not increase from its present amount.

Zhang Yue, director of the Urban construction Division under the Ministry of Construction, said, “Shanghai is the first city in the country to publicize these ambitions. They will not be easy to achieve.”

He said water saving will help keep the sustainable development of China's economy.

Saving one cubic meter of water means saving the city's infrastructure(基础设施)costs by

10, 000 yuan. Last year, Shanghai saved 300 million cubic meters of water either from readjustment of industrial structure or the employment of new technology.

The aim is to arouse public awareness of the seriousness of water shortages,” Chen said.” The abundant surface water and amount of rain of the city are so misleading that they result in improper use of water.”

Shanghai lacks drinkable water. The Huangpu River, which supplies 80 percent of the city's drinkable water, is nearing exhaustion.

The city, therefore, has been exploring new sources from the Yangtze River and growing forests along it to conserve quality water.

Besides penning regulations, the authority is popularizing technology among the public to efficiently cut the amount of water used.

At present, the city has 600 000 family toilets, each using 13 liters of water per flush. These are to be renovated(整修)to use only 9 liters of water per flush.

The authority is renovating the first 200 toilets for households—at a cost of 40 yuan each.

In three years, all the toilets will be renovated, which saves the city nearly 15 million yuan every year in water conservation.

Another task the city is engaged in is the treatment of sewage(污水)to improve the water environment.

At present the city can only treat 44 percent of its daily 5.04 million tons of waste water. To meet the total demand, 27 more sewage treatment factories are to be established with an estimated investment of 18 billion yuan.

41. The people in Shanghai get their daily water mainly from     now.

43. The authority is renovating the first 200 toilets for households to .

A. make people's living more convenient B. save drinkable fresh water

C. ease employment pressure D. meet the total demand of water

44. The writer wrote the passage to .

A. call on residents to save water in their daily life

B. seek(寻找)ways to solve water shortage existing in Shanghai

C. introduce Shanghai's advanced experience in improving the water environment

D. show that citizens in Shanghai will have the best drinking water in the world

45. In the opinion of Zhang Yue, the real meaning of the action to publicize these ambitions is to make people know .

A. it is not easy to achieve

B. water shortage is very serious in China

C. the importance of improving infrastructure

D. economic development can't be separated with water supply

The way people hold to the belief that a fun-filled, pain free life equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever attaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true: more often than not things that lead to happiness involve some pain.

As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment (预担的义务), self - improvement.

Ask a bachelor(单身汉) why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment. For commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure, excitement. Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.

Couples with infant(幼儿)children are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep or a three-day vacation. I don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. But couples who decide not to have children never know the joys of watching a child grow up or of playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activities that can genuinely(名副其实) increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes that will do nothing to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who are always having so much fun actually may not be happy at all.

46.According to the author, a bachelor resists marriage chiefly because ________ .

    A. he is reluctant to take on family responsiblilities

    B. he believes that life will be more cheerful if he remains single

    C. he finds more fun in dating than in marriage

    D. he fears it will put an end to all his fun, adventure and excitement

  47.Raising children, in the author’s opinion, is ________ .

    A. a moral duty

    B. a thankless job

    C. a rewarding task

    D. a source of inevitable pain

48.From the last paragraph, we learn that envy sometimes stems from ________ .

    A. hatred B. misunderstanding

    C. prejudice D. ignorance

  49.To understand what true happiness is,one must ________ .

    A. have as much fun as possible during one’s lifetime

    B. make every effort to liberate oneself from pain

    C. put up with pain under all circumstances

    D. be able to distinguish happiness from fun

50.What is the author trying to tell us?

    A. Happiness often goes hand in hand with pain.

    B. One must know how to attain happiness.

    C. It is important to make commitments.

D. It is pain that leads to happiness.

Microwaves may be great at warming up food, but what about warming people?

Using microwaves to directly heat owners of a room would save much of the energy wasted by heating walls and furniture. And despite popular ideas about microwaves, this technique would be safe, according to Charles R. Burlier of the Microwave Research Center in Marlborough, New Hampshire. Low-power microwaves only penetrate (贯穿) the skin (low-power microwave penetration in a ham is about 0.2 inches, for example) and with no negative effects.

To test this idea, Buffler subjected himself to microwaves in a special room using a standard 500-watt, 2459 MHz magnetron (磁控管). He found that a person will start to feel warmth at about 20 milliwatts per square centimeter (mw. / sq. cm. ) ; a satisfactory feeling of warmth occurs between 35 and 50mw. / sq. cm. By comparison, a person standing in noonday summer sun feels the amount of 85 mw. / sq. cm. And a frozen meat pie in your microwave oven receives about 1000 mw. / sq. cm.

In houses of the future, each room could be provided with its own magnetron, says Buffler. When you stepped into the living room, for example, a motion detector (运动感应器)would turn on the magnetron, filling the room with low-power microwaves. In the same way that a microwave oven heats up a hamburger, but not the plate it’s on, you would feel warmth from the microwaves without changing the temperature of your coffee table. (You could, however, make your favorite easy chair even more comfortable by treating it with a radiation-absorbing chemical. )

While it might be some time before homeowners are comfortable enough with the idea to set up whole-body microwave heaters in houses, Buffler says microwaves may attract livestock(家畜) farmers. Lambs that are born outdoors in winter, for example, are frequently lost to cold. Microwaves could warm the lambs safely and quickly.

51. Which of the following can tell the main idea of the passage?

  A. A new heating system. B. A new microwave oven.

  C. A popular technique. D. The magnetron.

52. According to paragraph 2, which of the following does not describe the characteristics of a microwave heater?

  A. It directly heats people in a room. B. It heats walls and furniture in a room.

  C. It is safe. D. It saves energy.

53. The test conducted by Buffler shows that when a person feels comfortable warmth, he receives about______.

  A. 20 mw. / sq. cm. B. 40 mw. / sq. cm.

C. 60 mw. / sq. cm. D. 85 mw. / sq. cm.

54. According to paragraph 4, which of the following fills the room with low-power microwaves?

  A. The magnetron. B. The motion detector.

  C. The microwave oven. D. The radiation-absorbing chemical.

55. Which of the following statements about microwave heaters would Buffler most probably agree with?

  A. Microwave heaters will soon be widely used by homeowners.

  B. Microwave heaters sometimes make people feel uncomfortable.

  C. Perhaps microwave heaters will be first used by livestock farmers, who wish to protect their lambs in winter.

D. Microwave heaters cannot be accepted by the public because they are somewhat unsafe.

Every year, we celebrate many special days---Mother’s Day, Father’s, and New Year’s Day. In some countries, there is a particular day for people to pull their leg with each other, which happens always before 12 o’clock a.m. In North America and parts of Europe, this day is known as April Fool’s Day, and is celebrated on April the first.

Many believe that the French started April Fool’s Day. Centuries ago, New Year’s Day in Europe was April 1. In 1582, the calendar changed and King Charles IX of France moved it to January 1.

But many people ______________________________, and they still chose to keep April 1 as New Year’s Day. Many called these people ‘April Fools’ and played practical jokes and tricks on them. Over Time, April 1 became a day to have fun in France. It then spread to England and Scotland, and later, to North America.

On April Fool’s Day, practical jokes are common. In the United States, for example, a person may move a friend’s clock ahead one hour, or switch the sugar and salt. In Scotland, April Fool’s Day lasts for two days. The second day is called ‘Taily Day’----for one’s ‘tail.’ On this day, people might secretly put a sign saying ‘kick me’ on a person’s back or behind. Other countries have their own ‘Fool’s Day.’ In Spain and Mexico, people play tricks on each other on December 28. In India, it happens on March 31.

书面表达

Dear Li Hua,

It’s time to say goodbye. It’s time to recall those beautiful days we spent together. You are the very person who gives me a hand when necessary. You are the most considerate person who knows exactly what I need.

Still remember that night two years ago? When I suddenly fell ill, it was you who carried me on your back to a nearby hospital. You took good care of me while I was having an injection. Later, you managed to help me with my lessons. Without your help, I would have failed in the examination.

I still have hundreds of stories to share with you. I still have thousands of blessings for you. May all your dreams come true! May our friendship last till the end of the universe!

Yours,

Wang Ping
